lilnephie:Mackinaw City/Mackinac Island. It is a special spot for DH and I and we always have a good time when we go there.
We are heading up to Mackinaw Island next week, we have a wedding on Wednesday there. I can't wait, I have never been and I am looking forward to just relaxing! Any special spots we should see?
Are you going with a kid? My answer will depend on this. Also where are you staying?
Re: **peanutsmom45**
Ha, yes we are taking Morgan... We are going with my in laws and are not actually staying on the island. they have a cabin about an hour away and we are just going to take the ferry across both days, wednesday and thurdays. (We are kinda of cheap).
How long is the ferry ride?
Ferry Ride depends on what company you use. We prefer Arnold and it takes about 20ish minutes. I would buy your tickets online as they are cheaper than at the gate. If you are taking bikes, there is a fee for those and bike trailers. Pay attention to schedules. If you miss the last boat you are SOL.
Since you are staying out of town then my suggestion would be to grab a map and pick out one or two attractions. Maybe look into a carriage tour of the island. From there just walk around main and markets streets to visit the shops and restaurants. You can visit the Grand Hotel, but if you want to go inside is costs $10 (i think). You can also visit Mission Point. We generally take a ride around the island (on our bikes) and stop at the major tourist spots for pictures (Arch Rock, Brittish Landing and Devil's Kitchen). We also like the butterfly house(s). there isn't anywhere to really swim so I wouldn't plan on that.
All the restaurants on the island are enjoyable IMO. We don't go to the fancy places because it isn't our style. All of them have menu's posted out front so you can pick one that suits your needs. Sorry that I don't have any specifics for you because we don't have kids and usually stay away from the family places.

THANK YOU, I sadly admit I have lived in Michigan my whole life and I am clueless about some of the best vacation spots here! I am printing your reply to use as a guide!
I was worried about the ferry and missing it, my fil said don't worry, hahah.. It's a family wedding, if all else fails we will just have to crash in someone's room!
I will look into the carriage ride, that sounds like it would be fun! My in laws have offered to watch M on Thursday for us if we wanted to head up there by ourselves, we will have to see how Wednesday goes, we might take them up on it!
Thanks so much!!!
I personally like the tours. They stop at all the major places for pictures and what not. If you get a good guide it can be entertaining. This is a good idea if you are not taking a bike. If you do plan on going overthere without a little one, we enjoy stopping at the Pink Pony, Mustangs and the Irish Pub for drinks and entertainment. The island really gets fun after 6pm or so when the day trippers leave for the day!! Key Hole Bar in the city is also one of our favs for food and drinks.
In the summer, the boats run a tad bit later. All the schedules are online so you can plan ahead. Arnold Transit, Starline and Sheplers are the companies. Depending on the date and company your last boat will be anytime between 9pm and 11pm. At night they generally leave on the hour.
