One of our dogs is driving me crazy!! He keeps escaping from our backyard. They are only out there for about an hour in the morning and then in the evening when we're home. We've fixed every spot he has gotten out. He just keeps finding new spots. We got an invisible fence (the electric fence with the collars). We had the invisible fence along one side of our backyard that is chainlink which keeps him from jumping that fence, but we didn't put it on the wood fence sides. Last night, we finally put it around the entire backyard. We let them out and 15 minutes later he was in the front yard. We have no idea how he's getting out. We put him back in the backyard and stood in the front yard on the sides of the house trying to see where he was getting out, but he just sat on the porch and didn't try to get out while we were watching (and now I have tons of mesquito bites on my legs).
This is more of a vent, but does anyone have any other ideas???
Re: Vent...
How tall is your fence? Is he digging out every time or is he jumping it?
My husbands grandparents had a beagle that would dig out all the time and his grandpa had to go around and put chicken wire all along the bottom of the fence and that finally stopped him from digging out.
I don't know why dogs have to be so naughty some times, hopefully you can find something to stop him because I'm sure it's very frustrating!
We have 6' wood fencing on all sides but one (which is chainlink). He's not digging his way out, they only dig in the middle of the yard lol. He just jumps the fences. I have absolutely no idea where he's getting out now. I'm hoping he's not being brave and jumping the fence and getting shocked. The invisible fence is a lot less effective if they know it will only shock them for a few seconds until they're on the other side. And we spent about $300 on that stupid invisible fence.
It's totally random when he decides to get out. On the weekends, he could be outside for hours without getting out. And then sometimes, he'll be out for 10 minutes and get out.

I wish I had some great advice for you. I know it's frustrating. I have the same problem with my dog (pictured below). He is about the size of a terrior. We have chainlink fence and he can easily clear it. I have to take him out on a leash every time he wants to go outside. If I don't, he immediately runs to the fence and jumps it.
I hope you find a solution!
Is this happening while you are home? Or do you leave him in the back while you're gone?
If we left our dog outside while we were at work, he would find a way to escape. That's just the way he is, so we work around that and he stays indoors. We had to crate him for a year, then he was baby-gated in a guest room for two years, and he finally has full house freedom while we're gone. Can you start keeping him indoors?
But if he's doing this while you're at home, I don't know what to tell you! You may just be resigned to not letting him outside without supervision. I'm sorry; I know it's frustrating. Hope you find an answer!
They only go out while we're home. I guess we'll just keep trying to figure out where he's getting out and see if there's something we can do in that spot to block him. Luckily, when he gets out he stays in the front yard (pretty much) or he'll go play with the neighbor kids if they're outside. But last week, the neighbor's boxer escaped from their backyard and the boxer bite Knox's leg and they started fighting. It was scary! I definitely don't want something like that to happen again!
They're not too great in the house. They chew on everything (they're 2 1/2, I thought they would be over the chewing phase? And when I say chew, I mean completely destroy the object within 5 minutes.) so they have to stay in their crates while we're at work and while we sleep. They don't seem to mind at all, but I feel bad that they are in there so much! Maybe we'll buy a baby gate and try letting them be free in the kitchen/dining room during the day.

I know dog stuff is so frustrating. We love them to pieces, but they can really complicate our lives! You sound like such a conscientious owner and your dogs (and neighbors, lol) are lucky you care so much.
I felt really bad about the crate even though it was our only option. I was thankful when we could graduate to the baby gate. By the way, our dog is 3.5 now and is just moving past the chewing stage. His third birthday was a huge turning point in the end of some puppy behavior. He's still a little devil, but he is showing more mature characteristics.
Good luck!
