US Open- random question
Hey all! I'm a lurker who usually posts on the F&B and Travel boards. DH and I are going to the US Open tomorrow and I'm all paranoid about their bag restrictions. According to the list of restricted items, "bags" cannot be larger than 8x8x8. Do you think that includes purses? I was planning on bringing a crossbody bag that is slightly larger than those dimensions. I would cry if I got all the way to the gate and they told me my bag wasn't allowed! Just wondering whether anyone here already attended the tournament and has any advice. TIA!

I have not been to the open, but at other tournaments I've been to the rules are the rules. By "bag" they mean any bag - tote, purse, backpack, etc. They can't really make a distinction for a specific kind of bag, because if they did, that would mean that someone could bring in a huge "purse," but a "backpack" of the same size wouldn't be allowed.
How much larger is slightly larger - just 1/4 inch, or several inches? If it's very slight, you might be okay, but if it's obvious that it's bigger just by looking, you might want to find something else.
Personally, I'd probably use the same rule I use when packing my carry-on for a plane trip - if I'd be upset because a strict TSA agent threw an item away that I thought was fine, I don't bring it. So, I'd bring a different bag that was within the limits.
