In my free time...

It is so funny because I am still so obsessed with weddings....I love to plan them!  So a couple months ago, I started up my own business of doing day of coordination!  I did my first bride last month and my next one is the 25th and I LOVE this.  I am SO excited to get this off the ground and the bride I did last time, gave my number to another girl and wants me to help her in September!  I'm way cheaper then the other "popular" event coordinators but I think I can do a damn good job!

Re: In my free time...

  • Thats great! I've been at it for a while (years) and its a really hard market to break into around my area. So congrats!

  • I have been doing the same thing! I did a wedding in October, one in April and I have another in August. Mostly just family, friends, and friends of family.

My major in college was Special Event Management (and sports entertainment management), so I have always wanted to do it. I am hoping that by the time I have kids and stuff I will be able to start my own business.

Are you mostly getting booked by word of mouth?

  • Yep, and I go on the Knot and PM girls who ask about DOC on our local.  That works GREAT.
  • yea the NNJ girls would never stand for that I'd be banned in a heartbeat!
  • Congrats!! That is so awesome :-))  I still am sort of wedding obsessed also, and would love to find a way to turn that into a side income. I did makeup professionally a while back, and did do about 5 brides/parties, but the time during the week involved didn't work well with my day job...and like you, it started with a relative (niece) and she had other friends getting married around the same time and passed my name along...I also did a couple of proms. Hmmm...maybe I'll look into that again.

My dream, though - would be a wedding photographer!

Good luck with your new business venture!!

  • That's so cool I wish I had the time/talent/market to do something like that.
  • Fun!  I miss wedding planning but don't know that I would want to work with other brides.  Be careful on TK with soliciting though.  They may ban you if you are outed!

  • Yeah, I'm pretty careful as to who I select to PM...and I don't talk about money just a "helping hand" to them...but reference it.  Sneaky Sneaky!

I love photographing weddings!  I had so much practice last year (we made it to 13 weddings!) and I had a blast!  Though I would never ask anyone to pay me for my photography, our friends/family have always loved my pictures :)  I love it for a hobby, it would be too much pressure as a job for me :)

  • Good for you!  That's a lot of work.  I like doing that stuff too but I think I would get too frazzled.  LOL  That's great - making some extra money doing stuff you enjoy.  :)
