Anniversary trip

Our 5 year is coming up at the end of Oct and we've been thinking about doing a little 3 or 4 day trip, without J.  I've always wanted to go to Savannah, but also thinking about NOL, anyone been to either or both?  Thoughts?

I'm also thinking about the Keys or another beachy area in FL.  Any other suggestions?  I don't think we are going to be able to manage a true vacation this summer with work stuff that is coming up for both of us.

Re: Anniversary trip

  • I haven't been to any of the destinations you're considering, but all of them are on my To Go list.  We're considering NOLA for our anniversary at the end of October too - I'm really excited by the prospect.
  • I love Savannah, NOLA and Key West! I would rule out KW for the end of October though b/c that's when Fantasy Fest is and I'm sure everything is already booked up and it will be crazy there.
  • I'm not really a fan of NOLA, but I might be the only person.  I just don't drink enough to enjoy it there.

Savannah - though!!!  Love, love, love it!  And, you can drive out to Tybee too.

And, Charleston's like 2 hours away.

  • I agree with Kathryn, I didn't love NOLA.  We had a nice time and I'm glad I went once but it wouldn't be on my recommendation list.  I haven't been to Savannah or Charleston but I have heard better things about both of them.

  • I've been to NOLA once and I am going again. I didn't love it, either.

  • Savannah is beautiful. I would love to go back and just walk around. October will be nice too. Never been to NOL. I've been to Key West, which is nice, but I would definitely say do KW in the summer, so you can really enjoy the beach and all the water activities. Although really it's a drinking town. Big Smile

Charleston would be another great option if you haven't been. It's a lot like Savannah but it's a bit bigger and there's more to do.

  • We've been to both Key West and NOLA...we thought they were similar in many ways. I have our KW details in my siggy.

As far as NOLA...I lived there when I was little and I always advocate for people to visit. Even if you don't drink there's just so much to do, see, hear, and eat that you could never do it all. We take a yearly trip. DH usually books the hotel through priceline; you can specify a neighborhood and the star rating so we've never had a bad experience with it. We have even stopped renting a car while we're there. You can take a cab from the airport to your hotel for a flat rate (I think it's around $20-30). Once you're downtown you can take a cab or the streetcar to anything that's not in walking distance. Every night there's tons of awesome musicians performing all the city. I personally love the zoo; I think the only one that's better would be San Diego. And the aquarium is better than the one in Baltimore...I think but I'm not big on aquariums. Last trip we finally went to the national WWII museum; it was fantastic and is being expanded. You can make the trip as cheap or expensive as you want. And the people watching is unparalleled.

If you seriously consider NOLA let me know and I'll get you our full list of musicians and restaurants.

  • Oh, and if you want to go beachy, Destin is beautiful. I grew up on the Gulf Coast and Destin always has the prettiest beach...perfect white sand and dolphins!

  • My friend is a tour guide in Savannah so let me know if you want any info. I went there once for the day (we were staying in Hilton Head) and it was beautiful. Love the historic town and shops. We also went out that night to the piano bar--good times!!

You might consider Hilton Head if you are going to be down that way.

Our anniversary is in September and we might go to Chicago!!!
