Your H can't eat dairy, right?  But don't you use soy cheese or something?  I halfway recall you mentioning pizzas made with soy cheese during old weekly menu posts.  Is that right?  I assume you eat it as well - how does it taste?  Is it passable for real cheese?  hah.

To explain - I have to stop eating all dairy because Genevieve has a dairy sensitivity and since I'm breastfeeding... well yeah.  So this is killing me.  I've cut out almost all dairy and noticed a HUGE improvement with her (crankiness, reflux, poop issues - like you want to know all this LOL) but have had cheese here and there and it causes her discomfort.  Booo.  Any other tips for someone going dairy-free?

I know you're busy, so no rush, I'm going to go look thru your blog now since it's dairy-free.

  • I have had soy cheese before and honestly it isn't really like cheese.  It isn't horrible, but not like the real stuff.   I have heard that veganrella is really good as a sub for Mozarella, but I haven't tried it yet.
  • Hey Steph

Yep, my H has a casein allergy (the protein in most dairy).  He can have butter, but no cheese, milk, cream etc...

Yes, I eat it as well.  As far as shredded cheese goes, we have found two brands that we both enjoy.  SoySation is one and Daiya is another.  They both melt well and are tasty.  We get the SoySation at Trader Joe's and Daiya at Whole Foods.

We also frequently get the Tofutti brand of sour cream to use in dips and things.  It isn't gritty like other soy sour creams and I've served it at parties without anyone knowing it was 'fake'.

  • Tofutti brand is good!  They have good cream cheese and ice cream sandwiches as well.
  • Thanks guys!  Looks like I'm heading to Whole Foods this afternoon.

Cassie - I was wondering what my options for cream cheese and ice cream might be - I'll check those out!  I don't know how I am going to survive a year without ice cream - ack!!  lol

  • So Delicious also has good ice cream.  It is made with coconut milk.  I love their chocolate peanut butter ice cream.  I can eat dairy, but I still occasionally get their ice creams.

I'm in love with the Trader Joe's brand of soy ice cream.  The cherry chocolate is amazing!
