Daddy Long Legs

So, this is the 3rd summer I have been in my home, and I don't think I have ever seen a daddy long legs spider here... Until about 2 weeks ago. I started seeing one here and there. Well, last night, I killed 3 in my kitchen. Today, I killed 2 in my kitchen, 4 outside, and my husband said he killed 4 on his truck this morning before he left. Out of curiosity, is my new garden attracting them? Or is it just a coincidence that they are here shortly after I planted it?

Re: Daddy Long Legs

  • Are you talking about the harvestman or the cellar spider? The nickname refers to both.

Either way, why are you killing them?  Especially the ones outside.  I'm hugely arachnophobic but I leave the outside spiders alone cause they're so, so beneficial to gardens, eating all sorts of nasty bugs that want to eat my plants.  If they're inside my house, they're fair game for the vacuum, though.

  • Yes, that's what I am talking about. And yes, I am killing them in my home, but the ones outside are literally on my doorstep, and I don't want anymore in my house.

  • It might be that one laid eggs in your home. I would have your house sprayed and most pest control places will come out free of charge within 30 days if you still have issues (or if you are set up with a quarterly plan they will come out at any time for free and take care of any other issues)

  • Just harmless pests, but daddy long legs Love houses and are very common around houses and buildings
