Such sad news

As many of you know, Jim works for Special Olympics.  We love what they do, and it's so cool raising our kids around the events that expose them to people with intellectual disabilities.

Jim just heard from a sister of our family's favorite athelete.  He has cancer, it's spread in his abdomen, and the doctors aren't able to do much.

This guy is the epitome of all that is good about people, and about what the orgination does for this group.

If you're a prayer, or a thinker of good thoughts, please do so.  Thanks

  • That is SO sad.  Sad  Thoughts and prayers to everyone that this affects.

  • Very sad. :-(  Many thoughts with all affected by this.
  • No - not another one.  Prayers sent.
  • Thanks, guys.  Sorry for such a downer.

Jim's been working from home this afternoon, and got the phone call in the basement.  He came upstairs in tears.

Thanks for letting me share, and seek support and prayers/thoughts.

    Tigers, another one?

    Tigers, another one?

One coworker being treated for pancreatic cancer (read his updates every morning)

my aunt being treated for early stage of breast cancer (expecting full recovery)

my SIL's good friend being treated for late stage breast cancer (I follow her blog - read it - she is very honest about what she is going through and very inspiring).

I feel like I hear of someone new everyday.  Feel so terrible that they have to go through this and scared to hear of more.

  • Oh, I thought you knew of another athelete who was sick.  This makes sense.

I'm so sorry.  I know the feeling of being surrounded my terrible disease and illness at times.  That's a lot of connection to one of the scariest things in the world.

  • I am sorry.  I will keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Working with this population has SO many rewards.  The early loss of so many of these students/athletes/friends is definitely difficult though.  I think the unconditional love often received from these folks makes it even harder to say goodbye.

Crying That made me tear up.

I noticed an obit in today's paper for a 50+ year old who I'm guessing maybe have been a special olympic athelete at one point in time.  There was a line about his mother being his sole caretaker or something like that, that broke my heart.

Let us know if you go to TH's games sometimes. We want to bring the girls to these events, we just usually hear about it after the fact, like on TV that night.

  • Zebe, that was beautifully written.  This particular man has such a wonderful, constant smile, and is a pure soul.

GVSU, I'll let you know.  It seems something should be coming up locally soon.
