A few years ago, DH's grandmother gave me a lovely diamond brooch, which I wore on my wedding dress. I've worn it only twice since then because really, how often are there occasions that require a big diamond brooch? DH's parents (Grandma is now deceased) have told me on several occasions that I should have the brooch reset into something I would wear more often. There are ten small diamonds and one larger, yellow diamond (it's not a canary diamond, it just looks that way next to the others!) The best I have come up with is a necklace with the one large diamond and one of the smaller diamonds (with the small diamond on top of the bigger diamond), and maybe hoop earrings or a new wedding band out of the smaller diamonds? Any other ideas or suggestions? Or should Ieave it as-is since it's an heirloom and just break it out on special occasions?
I may DD this later, since the whole world probably doesn't need to know I have this jewelry...
Re: Creative and/or bored nesties: how would you redesign this piece of jewelry (PIP)?
I've seen necklaces that are kind of chevron-shaped...with a larger diamond as the "point" and smaller diamonds forming lines on either side. however, you probably wouldn't wear that as much either, huh?
I think it's lovely & would, personally, keep as is though

If it were me, I would definitely make it into something I'd wear more often. One of my friends took a brooch from her husband's grandmother and made it into earrings and a ring. Every time I see her, she's wearing the earrings (whereas I don't think she'd ever wear a brooch). It sounds like you have the support of the family and I think it's better to enjoy something rather than having it sit in a drawer (especially when it comes to diamonds!
).
I would probably use the small diamonds to make earrings because that's something that you can wear as an everyday item without it being over the top. I'm thinking something like this. The other option with the small diamonds is a ring. Depending on the size of the diamonds, you could do a pinky ring. I wear a diamond pinky ring on my left-hand everyday. Or you could do a wedding band like you said. With the larger diamond, I would probably do a ring or a pendant necklace.
Or, I was just looking on bluenile. If you like necklaces, you could incorporate all of them into something like this.
