I'm a mommy! (xp birth story)

DH ran home for a sec and baby is getting the 24 hour assessment so I figured I'd get this in.

Last Thursday, at my 38 week appointment, was decided I was going to be induced this week due to the fact that I had gestational diabetes, all the possible complications that go along with it, etc. We scheduled it for Tuesday (yesterday).

Yesterday morning, we arrived here to the hospital around 7:30 a.m. Unfortunately, it was already shaping up to be a very busy day in L&D, so we were finally taken to our room about 9:30 a.m. They checked me and got me started on the pitocin IV. About 12:30ish, my doctor came in and checked me out, still dilated about 2 cm but completely effaced, she broke my water. For a few hours, it was beginning to feel like I was getting nowhere anytime soon.

A few hours after that, I was starting to get a little uncomfortable, crampy and all that fun stuff so they brought a birthing ball because the bed was just not happening for me anymore. As I was bouncing on this, a friend of my mom's just waltzed right in. To say I was pissed was an understatement...I had four people with me (DH, BFF, mom and MIL) and by that point, that was starting to be too much (and they were taking turns sitting in there with me, DH was preferring to sit in the waiting room for a while). Mom was off in search of gum for me, so I texted her told her to get back there because a friend of hers had shown up. Mom finally arrived and escorted her friend out because I was not a happy camper.

After that, I crawled back into bed so they could monitor the baby for a bit. DH was in there with me and I was all of a sudden really gassy. I had DH get the nurse because I really felt like I had to go #2 so she wanted to check me first to make sure i was going to actually go to the bathroom and end up pushing the baby out (and I was around 5 or 6 at that point). Success at #2 and some temporary relief! However, shortly after this, I was getting super uncomfortable and it was just DH and my BFF in there with me. I caved on something for pain so agreed to nubain which was supposed to 'take the edge off'. Ha! All it did was make me dizzy and by that point the contractions were coming fast and hard. I asked (okay, begged) for an epidural. As I said, busy day in L&D and so obviously the CRNA was a bit tied up so it took forever to get to me. Contractions became my hell on earth, I think DH may have puncture wounds in his arm and/or his thigh from me digging in but he overall did great with putting up with me and coaching me through it. However, it got to the point I was crawling the walls in pain and he was bawling because he couldn't do anything for me and they were not getting in there fast enough. At this point, I could not sit, lay down or anything else. The nurse asked to check me once more before hunting down the CRNA and turns out I was completely dilated and ready to go so they asked if I wanted to try pushing or continue to wait for an epidural which by that point would really do no good. I just wanted it over with at this point so they ran to get the doc and get things set up for the final act and five pushes later (and lots of vocalization, yelling and words my MIL did not need to hear come out of my mouth), baby was here. And despite the fact that at times I thought things were dragging on forever, from doc breaking my water at 12:30 to baby's birth at 5:50 p.m., it went fast.

Introducing Stella Marie:

As big as the doc and everyone else thought she'd be, she weighed in at 7 lbs. 1 oz, 20 inches long and she is absolutely perfect and completely healthy!
