Looking for the best cupcake in Boston

My husband and I really enjoy labeling our weekends: Friday- Take out night with a movie, Saturday- Date Day, and Sunday- Cupcake Sunday. We have only tried three places for cupcakes which was a bakery in Quincy Market, Montilios, and a cupcake place on newbury street. So far we loved Montilios, which is probably why I remember the bakery's name. So0o0o0o0 I would love it if I can hear what you ladies think is the best place to get some competition.

Re: Looking for the best cupcake in Boston

  • I'm not a big cupcake person (too much frosting usually) but if Konditer Meister does cupcakes I would totally check them out.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Kickass cupcakes in davis square is delicious. They are right outside the square, and don't have a lot of space to sit and eat, but you can take them to a bench in Davis and enjoy the beautiful weather!

  • Lyndells in the North End has good cupcakes.  Also, JP Licks, oddly enough. We got some for a colleague's good-bye party, and they were delicious.  Giant and delicious.

Oh, and Flour, maybe? I hear good things about all of their stuff, so I'd have to imagine their cupcakes would be good, too.

The best I've had in the area is place in my old neighborhood in Quincy, Babycakes.  Their peanut butter cup and oreo cupcakes were so. good.

  • Modern Pastry has the BEST hostess cupcake thing I have ever tasted.  If you are okay with filling, I'd try it!
  • Thanks so much ladies!! The Kickass one sounds real funny. I just told MH about all these new places and we are looking forward to the visits. I will take a picture of each cupcake bakery and the cupcake we eat from there to fill you ladies in.

  • I am originally from the Q (a Necker!).  There is a newish place on Hancock Street across from St. Ann's-the Sweet Spot.  I had a few of their large cupcakes there and they were SOOOO good.
  • Party favors in coolidge corner in Brookline. They have the best buttercream frosting if you are looking for a traditional gold/chocolate cupcake with frosting. They also have really good flavored cupcakes in the front cases, like an oreo one and a PB one.

Finale is just two blocks away from them, but they have better cakes and such, I was a little disappointed by their cupcakes.

And I think party favors blows cupcake Charlie out of the water (not sure if that is the place you went on newbury). I found them to be a little dry.

I love Party Favors' chocolate cake/vanilla frosting combo.  I've never tried their chocolate frosting before.

Is Cupcake Charlie the same as the one in Plymouth?  I've been there before and had a few that I liked, but I can't remember which flavors now.

I'm actually not that into cupcakes so I haven't tried too many bakeries.  I like to have a nice slice of cake that I can eat easily with a fork.

  • If you like chocolate then I would highly recommend ChocoLee on Dartmouth Street. She only makes one kind of cupcake, chocolate with ganache frosting, but OMG it's fabulous! So much better than any of the cupcake bakeries I've tried. The cake is moist and a great texture, and the frosting is pure chocolate heaven!

Also, (although you did not ask about this) her chocolate croissant is the best I've ever had, anywhere!

Flour is pretty good too, they are my second favorite cupcake.

  • I love cupcakes.

    That is all.

What's not to love... it's a personal, portable cake!

Even when cupcakes aren't great, they are usually enjoyable. The only cupcake that I have not finished (recently) was the very pricey, very cute, very dry cupcake I had from Sweet. Overpriced, and overrated! Don't bother...

Agreed! Their cupcakes are terrible.  I don't know how you go about ruining a cupcake, but they figured it out.

Even Suri Cruise thinks they suck, heh.

  • I am also a cupcake lover and am constantly searching for a new cupcake place to try :)....and dragging my hubby along for the ride.

Here are a few to try:

Treat in Needham....only about a year old, has some fun flavors...hit or miss on whether they are moist or dry, but worth checking out.

Yum Bunnies Cakery in Belmont.....most of their stuff is special order, but they do carry a small selection of cupcakes in the front of the bakery.  I used them last year for my bachelorette party.  They are some of the best I've found, and I still think about their strawberry frosting.
