Baby Bikini's - wuddya think?

http://www.momdot.com/babybikinis

I know, me & my good morning america - they had this on gma - controversy about baby bikini's....

what do you think?

__________________________

Okay me.....honestly i was kinda surprised this was a controversy at all, i'm thinking this isn't new, like i've seen baby bikinis already- but maybe not  Huh?

Either way, some people are outraged by this....how do you weigh in?

Side note - i see babies (boys & girls) running around in diapers with no shirt on at the beach, so i'm not really getting why this is a big deal...but i may just be a kook...

Re: Baby Bikini's - wuddya think?

  • Ehhh... they are cute but I probably wouldn't buy my daughter one but I also wouldn't side eye anyone that did put their daughter in one.  It kind of compares to padded bras and thongs being put in kids stores now.

  • My first thought is "Ick."  I'm not sure I can explain why.  Maybe it's because we now live in an age of "Toddlers In Tiaras" and Jonbenet, and it makes me think of little girls being objectified.
  • I don't like the ones I saw on that webpage...the string bikini on a baby is ridiculous.  I have seen bikinis on babies/toddlers that are more covered up (no deep v, thick straps) and I think those are kind of cute.
  • Baby bikinis don't really both me in general - meaning two pieces. Those have been around forever and they're cute (like the below).

The string ones in the picture are a bit over the top, but I don't find them to be a huge deal. It's a pool...no one is wearing clothes.

  • I think they are totally adorable.  I grew up around a pool when I was small and my sister and I always had bikinis from when we were infants until we were quite a bit older and they weren't like tankinis now.  They were string bikinis.  It wasn't a big deal because no one made it into a big deal.  They were just cute.
  • They don't bother me, but the animal print is wayyyy too much.

  • This is something that is always on the baby boards haha

I can't see the link but just by reading what y'all wrote ...if it's string I don't care for it...I think it's a little tacky but the one that kare posted is fine to me...Ava has one similar.

I do love the bellies pouching out :) but a string seems a little too much to me

  • I can't open the link at work, but the one like Karebear posted doesn't bother me.  I think they're cute.
  • I can't open that website at work. I'm kinda of meh on baby two pieces. I I prefer the wide bandeau tops and a  skirted bottom like the one Kare posted but I think a sting bikini is pushing it.

Not every baby can be as cute as Audrey in a two piece.

  • Re: ^... she's so cute, Thor!

That said, if I had a daughter, I'd probably opt for a one piece.  That's JMS.  But I don't see anything wrong w/ "traditional" baby bikinis like the cute one modeled by Miss Audrey.  I think the trifecta of  triangle top, string, and animal print is OTT.

I agree w/ the comments about padded bras and thongs (and I'd add HEAVY make-up).  I just don't like that stuff for kids.  To me, it all has a fairly mature undercurrent and I wouldn't want my 10yr old getting in to that.  She'll have an entire lifetime to wear thongs and fake lashes, if she wants... no reason to jump the gun, IMO.

  • Aw, look at that cutie pie!!

A two piece and a thong for children are totally, completely different, IMO. Now the padded bra I would have loved when I was like 13 and I wasn't developing boobs at all. Where were those when I needed them??

  • Well, now I'm gonna have to go an AW my little chubbster in her two-piece.  :-P  These are from last summer.

Obviously I don't have a problem with two pieces on babies.  But... I said BABIES.  Not to mention, diaper changes are easier with a two piece.  haha.  I think once they get past the baby/toddler stage it's time for one pieces until they are teenagers.  I don't know why I feel this way, I just do.  No matter how modest the two piece is (I'm talking bikini here, not tankini - those are cool for me), I'm just not a fan.  And woah - especially not the string bikinis shown on that website.  Yuck.

FWIW, Gabby has two one-piece suits this year and I probably wont buy a bikini for her any time soon (the one shown in the pic was a gift, but I loved it - I mean hello chub!  lol).

  • nola & thor ~ oh my goodness ladies!  Your little girl's are soooo adorable...see that's what i'm used to seeing, babies in bikini's like those, adorable.

Honestly, I don't think the triangle top looks trashy on a baby - i mean, c'mon it's a cute chubby baby!  when i see them I just think "how adorable" but i guess there are low life skeevs out there that may think different.

And i agree, no animal print for the babies!!!

  • i dont like the ones in the post. they arent cutesy which i think baby bathing suits should be. i love baby tummy and ruffled bottoms so i think two pieces are fine. thongs and padded bras? oh my! that is gross.
