In 1999, I was the exec director of a student association and this tiny young blonde thing walked in and ... changed my world. She was a dynamo, so self-assured at 24.... the age I was when I got married the first time, and had zero self-confidence. I took her to the fireworks on the Mall, as her introduction to DC living (she's from OK....) and we became fast friends. Yes, I was pretty much her mom's age but her mom is cuh-raz-ee and not the best role model. Fast forward to 2004 and I watched her marry an incredibly smart and handsome man (seriously, he looks like a cleaned up Matthew McConaughey) who loves the beejuzus out of her.
And on Tuesday, they had an amazingly adorable baby boy. I couldn't be more proud of her if she was my own daughter and am just thrilled they were able to have this baby and he's finally here! (well, in CA, so I have to go see him, but still....)
