I have a new client who calls me "kiddo". Normally it doesn't bother me when people call me "hon", "darlin'", etc. But this gets to me.
I understand it's his personality and he doesn't mean any disrespect -- he's been very complimentary about my skills and said I seem very capable. (background: I flew to meet him and his colleague Friday, we've been working together via phone since.) I've had truly abusive clients, so I do like him and find him charming except for this one thing. I'm trying to learn just to chuckle and not take it to mean something it doesn't.
I'm not young, I don't look young, I'm not new at my job. I am confident in my abilities and believe I convey that to clients.

how old are you? How much older than you do you think he is?
He hasn't done it since I wrote this, and I really don't feel a need to say it to anyone. I don't love it -- but I've heard worse.
I'm 32, client is probably 50. He also opens every discussion with sports discussions - I think he's an old school, boys' club kind of guy. Not ideal, but I'll take that over some of the other clients I've had lately. He really is a great client in every other way.
