What's proper protocol for this?

So next week we're taking the doggies with us {our first overnight in a hotel with the them} and arranged to stay at a pet friendly hotel.

I found a hotel I liked but had a couple of questions so I've been emailing with the guest relations manager back and forth.

She went so out of her way for me and was so accommodating. She even made our reservation for us and won't accept a credit card until we get there. She was just so unbelievable helpful and sweet.

Aside from thanking her profusely I had a small floral arrangement with a card delivered to her yesterday to show her how much I appreciated everything she's done.

I haven't heard from her. I thought maybe she wasn't in yesterday, but today I still didn't hear anything. I'm not looking for a thank you, but I want to make sure she got them. I got a confirmation that it was delivered but I don't know if it was delivered to her personally or to the front desk at the hotel or what. What if she never got them?

H thinks it would be rude of me to come out and ask her. I was thinking of maybe calling the delivery company and asking if they remember if they delivered directly to her or left it at the front desk? Or should I just shoot her an email and flat out asked if she got them?

Thoughts?

  • Ehhh, if they were to thank her she might not have thought she needed to thank you for the thank you, you know?  You could call the delivery company but I don't know how helpful they would be.  I wouldn't e-mail her directly.

If it were me I would just let it go.

Have fun with your doggies in a hotel!  We've done hotels lots of times with Mittens and it's always been easy.  We usually can find a way for them to waive the pet fee for us and sometimes they "forget" to even charge us in the first place if they don't see her at the desk at checkin.

Thanks Sandra... I just want to make sure SHE got it... but yeah, I guess I'll just assume she did and let it go. I just have to convince myself to let it go and assume she got them lol... and not that someone else is enjoying the flowers lol.

I doubt they will waive the fee for TWO yorkies lol... but I can always hope :)... did you leave Mittens in the room while you went out?

  • Yes, we do.  I don't know where you're staying, but we usually stay at Marriott Springhill Suites or Residence Inns when we have Mittens.  There are magnets you can put on your doorframe that say something about a pet being in the room.  That way if management or housekeeping have to enter the room for some reason they know there's a pet in there that could get out.  We usually put up the do not disturb also.

She's fine in there by herself, she wanders around smelling everything then takes a poop and a nap.

  • Yeah, this is a small boutique hotel so I doubt they will be so easy-going on the fee. I wish tho!

We definitely plan to leave them alone for some time, but not until the second day, that way they get used to the room. I figure if I leave the TV on for them it should be good.

  • I'm sure they'll be fine.  Where are you going?

  • Just into Manhattan... we wanted to start local with them lol

  • We took our dogs with us to a little boutique hotel in Savannah over Memorial day weekend and it was the first time we had ever done that before. The hotel only charged us for one dog and they provided dog bowls and gave us doggie bags with treats when we checked in. Just let them know at the front desk that you don't want maid service because of the dogs. Our hotel had a sign at the front desk saying that all dogs had to be crated when the owners were not in the room, but since we don't crate our dogs (I know, shame on us) we didn't do that - it's not like they chew stuff anymore, they're 6 and 11 lol

Don't feel bad, we don't crate ours either :)

What is the rationale for crating? I am fostering a dog right now (that I will likely have to give up in a few days, and I'm devastated about it), and we haven't been using his crate. We tried it the first night, but he freaked out, cried all night, vomited and crapped all over the crate, and we never tried it again. Now he sleeps with us and everyone is happier.
