We had to take our Pacifica in to the dealer today to have an oil change and the brake pads replaced, so we had to move M's car seat to the Camry. Usually it's no big deal and a cinch to move, but Alexi was having a horrible time hooking it up and was getting frustrated. Well, he took it out of the Camry for a second to look at it and the whole base was just hanging from the carseat. He asked me if it was supposed to do that and I asked him if he slammed it around or something b/c he got frustrated. Um, NO on both accounts, the thing just fell apart! He looked in the Camry and there were screws and washers everywhere on the seat and floor. We have no idea where they go or WTF happened, but there's no way I'm putting her back in that seat.
I'm going to call Britax today to beg for a replacement. This car seat was supposed to be the best and all I can think about is what would've happened to my precious girl had we gotten into an accident and all those screws fell out.
Re: WTF, Britax?! M's carseat fell apart
Oh my gosh, I'm glad nothing happened while M was in it!
Britney Spears just puts her kids in her lap. Why do you need a car seat?
I hope it gets fixed soon. Give'm hell Alex.
LOL, thanks Morgan...I needed a laugh.
Claire- I'm kind of leaning that way. My 2nd choice in a carseat was a different brand, but I can't remember what it was (I think it was the Graco My Ride or the Evenflo Triumph). I'll have to see what Britax says when I call them. Alexi is just speechless now...I think he's just thinking about what could've happened to our girl. I don't know if I'll ever trust Britax again.
Heather, I have my copy of Baby Bargains here -
They give the Britax Boulevard 70 an A-, the Marathon 70 an A, and the Roundabout 55 an A.
The other A ratings go to:
Evenflo triumph advance - A-
First Years True Fit A
Recaro Pro Ride A-
Sunshine Kids Radian 65/80/XT A-.
Their "Best Bet" goes to the Britax Marathon. If Grandma is buying, they recommend Britax Boulevard 70 and the Recaro ProRIDE which costs about $280 they say.
Their "Good" is the Evenflo Titan Elite and "Better" is the Sunshine Kids Radian 65.
We have the Marathon 70 (in Waverly color) and now that I see that list my second choice was the Triumph.
I just spoke with Britax. They opened a ticket and I have to take pictures of the broken carseat and screws and email them. Once I do that, they'll send the replacement seat out. If I was home and could do the pics right now, they'd send the seat out by lunch time. UGH, why didn't I take the pics this morning before we left?! They close today at 4 for the weekend, so we'll have to wait for the replacement to be shipped on Monday. They were very apologetic and will be taking the old seat back to do testing on it. I hate to give them one last shot, but the company has such a good reputation I really think this was just some fluke and thank god we didn't find out about it in an accident.
My MIL as a carseat we can borrow for the weekend, it's just forward facing and I have a real problem putting M in it as she JUST hit 20lbs. Plus, I don't want her to have a taste of forward facing and the protest going back to rear facing. We put her in her infant seat just to get her to my MIL's this morning. She meets the weight requirement (22lbs) still, but is over the height requirement in it by an inch. I don't think we're going anywhere as a family this weekend, so we will probably just stay home and avoid the car with her.
