TGIF! Weekend plans? Plus a bonus question!
This week has sucked. But it's Friday.
Today/tonight - cleaning and do some laundry
Tomorrow - DH has to work until 3, so i'm going to organize the office (I feel like I just did this - but it's a disaster again) and clean up the deck and back porch. Then we'll probably have a nice dinner and hang out outside, maybe have a bonfire if it's not 100 degrees or raining.
Sunday - we might see a movie, but other than that - we have no real plans.
Bonus question: What are you reading? I am on 4 waitlists right now for various books, so I need something to bide the time...
Re: TGIF! Weekend plans? Plus a bonus question!
Dear SSW,
We haven't yet made plans. Perhaps start packing for our house closing in 11 days (YAY!).
Reading: Ladies Home Journal. Don't judge. Initially, it was a joke, but it actually isn't TOO bad of a magazine. But bookwise, I just read American Wife and Irreplaceable. Both were great reads. American Wife is the story of a First Lady (loosely inspired by Laura Bush). The majority of the book is about her life prior to becoming a First Lady. Irreplaceable is about a husband whose wife was an organ donor upon her untimely and young death. The donor recipient wants to meet him, and he is very uncomfortable with it.
Oh, and of course, I am reading a zillion kids books from the library.
Read leads,
kewliegirl
My weekend involves bonding with the baby and maybe taking a trip to Costco and actually seeing my husband
As for reading, since I feel like Ive done nothing but breastfeed over the last 3 weeks, Ive been reading/read:
Something Borrowed (surprisingly good, I'm not a big chick lit fan)
The Shack (has a religious background theme but a really good book)
The Kitchen House (really good I'm about half way through it, based on an Irish immigrant in the 1700s who loses her family and is raised by slaves)
Water for Elephants (which probably everyone has read and Im years behind on this one)
This has felt like a very long week!
Tonight - Driving to DE.
Tomorrow - Hopefully relaxing by the water in the AM, then driving to MD (eastern shore) in the afternoon for my cousin's wedding. It's outdoors, so hopefully it won't be too ridiculously hot. I'm not sure whether the crazy side of the family that doesn't talk to us anymore will be there or not; could be interesting if they are...
Sunday - Breakfast with my family for father's day/Mom's birthday, lunch with DH's family for father's day, then drive home. Hopefully we'll be home early enough that I'll be motivated to clean up a bit and do laundry...
Book: I just finished reading "The Corrections" by Jonathan Franzen, which I did not particularly enjoy (it had some clever parts, but man, was it slow - and long), and need to hurry up and read "Room" by Emma Donahoe before my book club meeting on Wednesday. I've heard "Room" is supposed to be very good, I'll let you know!
Baby248 - ETA 1/10/13
I have absolutely NOTHING planned for this weekend....
I'm hoping that it is nice enough to get to the pool for a couple of hours tomorrow if the sun is shining, and I'll definitely take KJ out to Downs Park for some swimming at some point...
I'm thinking about starting to refinish my grandmother's antique dresser but I have said that for the past three months and am a little overwhelmed by the task.
As for reading - I just started "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson and I like it a lot so far. My mom sent me the trilogy so it is all on my list. I just finished "In the Woods" by Tana French - it is the first in several mystery books that take place in Ireland that focus on the Murder (Homicide) Squad. I absolutely loved it, and just ordered the next two. The third one arrived but the second one hasn't yet, so I started this other series while I wait. Reviews are mixed, but I really enjoy her writing style. Let me know if you have any interest, I'd be happy to lend it to you....
I'm off to NJ with the kids to see my mom (she's been sick), DH is staying home to be with the contractors.
As to books, In the last month or so I've read The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown (good), The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connolly (OK), The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd (good), Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs (funny), I'm in the midst of reading A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve (good so far). I started Midwives but couldn't get into it, I'll try again later.
Books I have read recently:
The Room
Water for Elephants
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption (LOVE this one)
Heaven is for Real- quick read that's cute
The Hunger Games ( good book, but I wont read anymore in the series, to dark for me)
Skipping a Beat (chick-lit but kinda depressing)
Cane River (love)
The Help (love)
Ladies No. 1 Detective agency.. cute easy reading
Weekend plans: Hosting a welcome home cookout for a friend on Saturday so tonight will be spent cleaning the house and then grocery shopping. Hoping for cooler non-rainy weather!!!!
Tonight DH is going to a concert with a friend, so after dinner I get to watch trashy tv all alone. Woot!
Tomorrow morning I have yoga class with DD, then a whole lot of nothing planned. Maybe DH and I will finally hang some pictures we've been meaning to get to for weeks. Or I can unpack the suitcase from our trip last weekend?
Sunday is another quiet day. I guess we're hanging out with my FIL for a while, and a good friend is going to visit for a few hours once gets to town. Since our big Mother's Day thing was to run errands while FIL babysat, I'm not really planning to do anything big for Father's Day :P
Books - I'm reading House at Riverton by Kate Morton. I really loved the last book of hers I read, and this one is pretty good. I'm listening to Matched by Ally Condie during my commute - it's a YA novel a friend raved about. I can't quite describe the story line, but I just started yesterday and I'm hooked.
Tonight: We're headed to the Nationals game -- our first one -- yay! I'm hoping to brave the (reported) long lines for some Shake Shack to see what the fuss is all about.
Tomorrow: Not really sure. DH will go into work, I'll probably be nursing a migraine (like I have probably 95% of Saturdays in 2011). Relax around the house. Maybe go to our fav winery for a tasting/picnic lunch. We don't have any specific dinner plans. I bet DH will try and talk me into Green Lantern (I think it comes out this weekend, right?)
Sunday: Whatever is leftover from Saturday and meal planning/grocery shopping for my last week of school/last 'normal' week at home until practically August!
Forgot -- I'm 'reading' (listening to the audiobook) of The Help and I will finish that on my way home tonight. On the iPad I've got Cleopatra (non-fiction, but I'm a major history buff) and Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs (pop culture essays basically) in progress. As for 'real' books I'm also in the middle of The Widow of the South and a kid book.
My Food Blog
tonight: making pizza amatriciana and finally presentations for the online art class that started two weeks ago, i'm just a wee bit behind!
tomorrow: sleeping in, picking up a zipcar and heading to our niece's 3rd b-day party in laurel (not super excited about that part of the day), then heading to wegman's!! i ordered a dresser online so now we can skip ikea entirely :P
sunday: gym, finally starting on projects for said class, probably watching some movies with DH and making something for dinner.
books: i second kate morton - the house at riverton is her first novel and definitely not as good as the forgotten garden but still really good. i am reading the nicholas flamel series by michael scott. the first one is called the alchemyst.
Tonight: Chipotle and grocery shopping. Then, baking for a gig tomorrow.
Tomorrow: Decorating said baked goods, delivering, and then napping. A friend's bday party in the evening.
Sunday: Super 8 and sleeping in. Maybe vacuuming or finishing cutting the strips for my quilt into blocks.
I'm reading: Water for Elephants. Because I'm late in literature right now. I'm going to start Game of Thrones after this.
Stand up for something you believe in.
Today: My day off so spending with the babies--so far, we've gone on a walk, to Kohl's, and Robek's. We may to the Farmer's Market later.
Tomorrow: 10-mile run with DH and then bringing the babies to a cookout with friends
Sunday: Not sure yet. At some point this weekend, we have to do some major yard work before the bushes outside take over our house.
Today = Regular Day Off. Went for bloodwork, shopped for drinks and snacks, filled up our new raised-bed planter with dirt and planted some plants in it, and now I'm ready to work out and do some last touches of cleaning before our karaoke party tonight.
Tomorrow = Going to Frederick to brew our own beer, then hitting a big outdoor party in the afternoon/evening.
Sunday = Taking Otto's dad to the Nats game (w/other family memebers too) and then coming home and relaxing.
Books: Mostly all I read are self-help books, but I did just devour "The Help" in like 4 days. Great book, very easy to read.
Tonight- stopping by Verizon (hopefully it won't take too long), then to the mall and Target for a few things.
Tom.- day to myself since DH is playing cards. I want to polish by toe nails and cook some things for lunches this week. We'll see what else I think up... trashy TV will probably be in the mix.
Sun.- Church, grocery shopping, hopefully pool if it doesn't storm. I should clean too.
Books: I am way behind on the times, but I'm on the 4th Harry Potter book. Don't laugh! I have no idea why I waited to long to read them... as a pp mentioned, American Wife was very good.
Planning Bio
Today - I went to my part time job today. I'm going to paint my toenails so I can wear flip flops. Then I need to do some of my freelance work. Tonight I'll probably just catch up on the DVR as usual and try to stay awake until DH gets home from work.
Tomorrow - DH is going to fix my bike, and I will probably do some chores around the house. We're going to a beer festival and a classic car parade in the afternoon/evening. We may Redbox the Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1, because DH never saw it.
Sunday - Our local movie theatre is showing the broadcast of Steven Sondheim's Company that was produced by Lincoln Center with Neil Patrick Harris, Steven Colbert, Christina Hendricks and Patti LuPone, so I want to go to that.
Other things we need to get done: grocery shopping, planning our BBQ (remember how I mentioned that last week, yeah, I didn't do it), and shopping for party stuff.
Forgot the bonus question. (It's summer, don't judge.) I am reading Ceremony in Death by JD Robb and listening to 92 Pacific Boulevard by Debbie Macomber.
