suggestions for standing out in mass interview

I got a letter requesting me to call and schedule an interview time slot.  This is for a job I would really like to have, it would be great for my DS and me.  Reading the letter it appears they will be doing all interviews on the same day, so...how do you make yourself stand out above everyone else?

Re: suggestions for standing out in mass interview

  • 1. RESEARCH the company and come up with thoughtful questions to ask at the end. Also, if you know the names of those who will be interviewing you, look them up on linkedin. Try and find some common ground (hobbies, alma maters, etc). Try and work it into conversation without looking stalkerish.

    2. Dress like someone who has the position- it makes it easier for the hiring manager to imagine/visualize you in that role. Basic example- if you want to be a flight attendant, dress similarily to their uniform.

    3. Send a thank you email/note.

He's my fairytale, a dream when I'm not sleeping.

  • Practice your responses to common questions so you'll have an answer ready when you're asked, and never underestimate the power of a genuine smile. Try to ask questions that give your interviewers a chance to talk about themselves or their interests (I think it puts them at ease)- like "What do you like most about Company X?" or "What has been the most rewarding part of your career with Company X?"

Ditto on the thank you email/note.

I always put together at 90 day start op plan to review with them and leave with them after the interview.  I include all the things I will do to get up to speed in the job in the first 30 days, next 30 days and an additional 30 days.  I keep it simple and just bullet point things and make sure my name appears on the top of the document.  Works like a charm...
