Any volunteers to hand out throat punches?

I'm relieved... I passed my 3 hr glucose test. I just got this email from my father though and I'm going to go hide under a rock.

"Congrats!  I would still be aware of the potential for GD in the future.  You were definitely at risk because of where you were starting the pregnancy in terms of weight.  Keep eating right and you?ll be in good shape."

  • Ugh. This is why I will never tell my mom about any glucose tests. She is JUST like your dad!

Hang in there. You have obviously done well so far, so I see no reason to trust yourself to continue as you see fit.

My mom is worse... but she's just on a plane right now so she can't email me. My mother is thrilled that at rate I'm going, I'm going to end my pregnancy skinnier than I started. Seriously?!
  • Oh no he didn't!  Angry

P.S. I was plenty "fluffy" when I got pregnant and I did not develop GD. I gained a total of 15 lbs. Sadly, I am currently 1 lb. above my 9 months pregnant weight. It turns out that toddler snack time shouldn't automatically equal mommy snack time too. Crying

  • Uhhh yes, sign me up to administer a throat punch. Major fail!

But congrats on passing the test :)

  • What a crappy and totally unnecessary thing to say- a throat punch is most definitely called for! Glad to hear you passed your GD test, and try not to let the negativity get you down!

  • boo! I hate it when parents try to give "helpful" advice. :(
  • Great job on passing the test!

Your dad sounds like mine.  I pretty much got the same response when I passed mine.  I quickly informed him that if I'm hungry, I'm going to eat.  Yeah I gained 75 lbs when I was pregnant. Embarrassed

  • Congrats on passing the three hour test! But your dad...he does deserve a throat punch for those comments!
  • Wow! Total opposite of my mom who said, "screw them, have a cupcake"

I'm so glad that you passed the 3hr. Like I said, the failure rate on the 1hr is pretty high. They used to not give them to everyone, but Dr's are extra cautious and would rather use diagnostic testing. So, I wouldn't worry about it. Keep on with the keeping on and put ear muffs on when people talk to you. Will be good practice for when they give you unsolicited baby advice :)

  • congrats on passing!

dads can be a bit clueless when it comes to things like this...I agree with whoever said to just put on the hypothetical earmuffs if he ever brings it up again...

  • I'll get Colby to give him a throat punch - he's pretty good at it, he's a brute already for a little guy.  Stick out tongue  (although at 12 pounds, he's really not that little of a little guy.)

I am small and had GD; tell your dad to shove his theories about size = GD where the sun don't shine.  It's not about size, it's that our placentas put out a hormone that counteracts some of our body's ways of properly dealing with glucose and insulin.
