What did you wear on the first day?

Just wondering what you all wore on your first day of work at your current job. I'm starting a new job soon and have some ideas in mind, but I'm not sure if I'll be way overdressed (and uncomfortable) in a skirt suit on my first day. At the same time, I don't want to dress down in case I'm going to meet some VIPs throughout the day. The office is business casual.

Re: What did you wear on the first day?

  • I started in Jan so I wore black pants with flats (you don't know if you'll be walking a lot) white top and cardigan long sleeve. Even though its summer I would wear a cute top but have a jacket over it. Sometimes when it is super hot out they crank up the AC and I can still wear a sweater here so you'll want to dress to wear you can take off layers but also have long sleeve just in case. Our office is business casual and a suit would be really dressy.
  • I wore dress pants and a nice button down shirt. I am sure that I wore heels. I don't wear anything over two inches. I have dress pants I can wear with flats (only) and others I only wear heels with.
  • I am a teacher so I had an idea of what the dress code would be when I showed up on my first day. However, I wore pants, a nice shirt and a sweater on my first day. I can't remember if I wore flats or heels, but I think PPs idea to wear flats is a good one.

Always err on the side of dressier.  Wear a button down so you can take the jacket off.  GL on your new job!
  • If it's business casual I'd wear a black skirt, low heels, and a nice top
