Wedding Gift for Sister

My sister is getting married in November and I'm the Matron of Honor.

Any gift ideas? I don't really want to just get her something from her registry - though she has a few big things that would be nice. I am looking to spend about $150.

My Mom said something about giving her a nice card and the money inside telling her to go on a couples massage on her honeymoon. She says presentation is everything.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Re: Wedding Gift for Sister

  • Why don't you want to get her something nice from her registry?
  • You can get her a nice gift off of her registry or.... something personalized.

My sister got us a very nice frame from Things Remembered and had it engraved with our names and wedding date. She also made a scrap book for us to put pictures in. These are the two items we cherished the most. There are plenty of other items you could get if you do not like the frame.

  • You know she actually wants the stuff on her registry, right?

A few of our relatives tried to give us "unique" things and it was all pretty much crap that we hated.

    Cash is fine, though.

    Hope is not a strategy.
  • I would definitely like your mothers idea...you could also probably arrange it with hotel to send you a gift certificate if you pay for it now.

  • Cash is always nice when you don't know what someone wants. It's also pretty impersonal. I love the gifts my sister gave me for our wedding, still have them; and the 10th and 20th anniversary gifts she gave us, which were beautiful and thoughtful. If she'd given us money, I probably would have spent it on bills or whatever, and would have long forgotten about whatever it is I bought.

You know what your sister would like; why not get her that?

  • For my sister's shower, I got her KitchenAid mixer off her registry and then also made her an "us" scrapbook. Of course, this was in 2003, before scrapbooking was a "thing."
  • My gift to my sister was an hour long massage and a facial. It was a great way for her to take a minute and relax. She absolutely loved it!

  • Can you give an item that coordinates with the registry?

I registered for Fiestaware dishes and someone found a matching Fiestaware vase.  It was thoughtful, but still something that I would have wanted.

  • Cash or a gift off the registry would be best.
