potentially awkward situation

I thought I'd turn to you wonderful ladies for some advice here...

One of DH's friends from college is getting married on August 6th. We got a STD months ago. We have another wedding to go to on July 30, so we bought flights to combine the two weddings in one trip.

We haven't gotten the invitation in the mail yet, though. It's now 7 weeks away, so it's possible that they haven't sent them out yet, but I'm a little concerned that we haven't gotten it yet. Maybe it got lost in the mail? I thought about asking other people if they've gotten it yet, but I'm not 100% sure who out of DH's group of friends is invited.

What would you guys do? How long would you wait before you said something? I don't want to be obnoxious or anything...but we've already booked our flights, and I need to book a hotel room soon, and I'd feel much better about that if I physically had the invitation in hand! TIA

  • I'd call now becaues you have to fly out. If they sent you a STD and not an invitation, it will be awkward but because they seriously broke some etiquette rules!

  • I would suggest having your husband call his friend.  He could start by saying how much you both like the STD and then ask if the couple plans to reserve a block of rooms at a particular hotel.  That way you can fish for info without even having to mention the invitation.  Good luck!  Let us know how it goes :)

I really like this idea.  Very classy way of fishing for info!

I agree!! If he makes it sound like he's just asking how things are going, etc., it'll open the door for more info!

  • Thanks, ladies. I had DH ask a friend of his, who said that he had gotten the invitation a couple weeks ago. So, DH called his friend (the one getting married) and just asked her about it. He was pretty awkward about it, but they are good friends so it doesn't really matter.

She thinks her mom sent the invite to our old address, but she's sending us another one now. And, DH spent some time catching up with her, so I guess it all worked out.
