I Think My Mother is going through Menopause.

This is the conversation I just had with her:

"I'm looking online at tickets to see West Side Story on July 1.  Can you go that day?"

"Actually, I'm sorry, I don't think so."

"...why?  That's Fourth of July weekend.  You're not going to be around?  Where are you going?"

"Ivan and I were going to go to New York."

"But what about our cookout down the Cape?  We can go out on the boat and to the beach."

"What cookout?  Have you planned anything yet?"

"Well, no."

"I guess I just don't assume there will be a cookout unless you tell me?"

"Oh, well, whatever.  What's going on in New York?"

"Ivan's family is having a cook out."

"I don't think any cookout they have will be better than the one we are having down the Cape."

"Well, I'll talk about it with Ivan."

"Do you WANT to go to New York or is he forcing you to go?"

"I'll call you later, Mom, ok?  I have to get back to work."

"Well, I'm mad.  Don't you like hanging out with your own family anymore?"

 Seriously?

Then we planned to go see West Side Story next Friday instead so she can't say I never want to see her.  OMG it was exhausting.  H and I don't go out to New York freely and take advantage.  We go when there is something going on that we've been invited to and want to be there for.  It's not a competition.  UGH.

Re: I Think My Mother is going through Menopause.

  • This sucks, but what about it says menopause?

  • Because she's definitely at the age and if you knew her she is so nice and easy going - being snippy is not like her at all.  Something's up and I think it's a hormonal imbalance lol - this is so far from her usual personality I'm thinking menopause is the only explanation.

H and I LIVE in Massachusetts way closer to my family than we do to his.  We can see them any time.  She shouldn't be making comments or throwing a temper tantrum when we decide to go see his family out of state once in awhile.

  • I miss my family a LOT, but sometimes I'm really happy they live far away so that we don't have to fight over where we spend holidays.

     That just sounds exhausting.
