Just found out I'm hosting Christmas this year.

DH and I bought our house, a ranch style, in January. My mom comes over to play with my dog and go shopping when says "how about Christmas at your house this year? So much more room than mine" which of course I say is fine.

So here we are 6 months out and I'm already starting to plan. Our "computer room" was the former residents living room that faces the street with a huge window. We're planning on putting the fake tree there. Our "living room" is the "family room or Man Room" of the former residents with a huge wood fireplace (that still needs inspected so hopefully it works) and because of apartment life, we've never had a real tree so that will go in there.

Then I'm thinking QVC does Christmas in July I'll have to watch for, I want to try Food Network's Alton Brown's Turkey Brine for dinner.

So that's my not-angry vent but at least my mom asked 6 months in advance which is nice. So I'm praying for a nice 40 degree day because I also live on top of a large hill that gets fun to drive sometimes with limited parking in the area.

Re: Just found out I'm hosting Christmas this year.

  • Congrats on the home :) At least your mom asked you so far in advance, my family pops things on me with little to no time to really plan.

I LOVE QVC's Christmas in July. Bethleham lights are phenomenal and I can't wait to order mine early!

  • We are hosting Christmas this year for the first time as well and I am so excited! I actually have an excuse to go all out with the decorating. And even though it is currently 85 degrees outside, I'm already planning where my tree will go, what my menu will be, etc. :)
  • We're not hosting Christmas but we are hosting Thanksgiving for the first time.  I actually offered to host because my grandmother who typically had it (mom does Christmas) passed away in April.  I'm just hoping to have my new kitchen counters by then.  I'm already trying to figure out the menu but so far I haven't gotten very far.
  • That sounds like fun...a lot of work....but at least you have plenty of notice!!  Also check out www.marthastewart.com - she has some amzingly easy decorating and meal ideas that I love.

Congrats on the new house as well!

  • I love having any holiday at my house, it was one reason I was so excited about having a house.  Enjoy!
