Ugh. I'm sad. I think I mentioned here a while ago that he wasn't doing well and was in a nursing home, so it's not a big surprise, but this still sucks. He's the first person I've ever been close to to die. If you don't mind, I think I will ramble about him a little to get it off my chest.
He was 93. He and my grandma had their 65th anniversary this week. They had 12 kids, and even though he was always kind of gruff my grandpa LOVED babies. He was a total ball of mush around them.
He loved collecting antique Oriental rugs, refinishing antique furniture, and playing a never-ending game of bridge with my grandma. His favorite snack was beer and Cape Cod potato chips; he also loved screwdrivers. He was really handy (although one time he did run his hand through a wood planer and cut off 2/3 of his pinkie. And then he drove himself to the hospital).
We're leaving on Sunday for New York; there's a wake Sunday and funeral Monday.
Here's a picture of him with DS last summer (the only time they ever got to meet):

Re: sad post - my grandpa passed away :-(
court, I'm so very sorry for your loss :-(
your grandpa sounded like such a cool guy--with excellent taste in potato chips!

Aww, that brought tears to my eyes. I'm sorry for your loss. That's awesome that they were married for 65 years, and that he at least got to meet your DS.
