Tradewinds

I think I've heard this hotel talked about before- was someone married there?  What can you tell me about it?  They offer a teacher discount over the summer- it's from $69 a night at the Sandpiper Suites and from $79 a night at the Island Grand.  Does this seem like a good price? Also, Is the area nice?  Is it within walking distance to any shops? restaurants? bars? Maybe DH and I will go there for a few nights if it's worth it.  Thanks!

  • I believe Kristina frequents this hotel often. :) My mom can get amazing deals on suites there, DH and I may go soon.

  • I knew someone talked about it often. So do you think that's a good deal? I was trying to just get a price without the discount, but it keeps giving me an error message. I just read that they have a $25.00 per night resort fee- that seems like a lot!

  • My hubs and I stayed there on our wedding night and many other times. It is nice little getaway. Sometime it can be crowded but not too bad. Def recommended!

  • We got married there back in 2007 and went to stay on our one year anniversary.  We go down for the day sometimes with friends just to enjoy the beach and pools.  I have no idea what the going rates are now, but I would say it's definitely a more "beachy" type of place (wicker furniture, tile floors, etc.) and it depends on what you're looking for.  I would think that rate is pretty good, but we've never been to the Sandpiper suites, we've only stayed at Island Grande.  There's tons to do in walking distance, plus there's many things to do on site as well - mini golf, paddleboats that go around a moat in the resort, a couple bars and an adult only pool.  I wish I had more info for you, sorry I am probably not much help.

  • That is helpful, thanks!

It seems like a good rate, but the $25.00 a night resort fee is a bit much.  Usually they're only $10.

  • We stayed there for a few days this past spring break.  We stayed at the Island Grand.  While the resort fees are high, there is a TON to do on the property.  They have these HUGE inflatable slide things and like Kristina said tons of other activities.  They also have a good variety of restaurants and bars on the property.  I want to say there are 10 different places to eat?

All and all we had a good time!  Although our rooms were a bit more expensive, but again we were there on Spring Break.

  • Is there stuff that makes the resort fee worth if for adults?

  • I worked there for two years and I would definately recommend it, especially at that price. Island Grand is the busier of the two, but the resort fee covers both properties, they are probably 2-3 blocks from each other. The resort fee is mostly still to use the pool and cabanas, but they have an adults only pool and paddleboats, mini golf, etc, all on property and there are a ton of places to eat and drink on property and in complete walking distance.
