Stupid, but still upset...
My Birthday was a MONTH ago. Today I receive a gift in the mail from my mother. I swear she must have sent me the wrong thing. It's a lime green sequined vest with the price tags still on it.. Seriously??? She has been my mother for 35 years and this is what she thinks I would like? Not to mention it's 2 sizes too big.... and HIDEOUS. Yes, I can return it... to a store I would never shop at.... I have no idea what to say to her. My feelings are really hurt. I would think my own mother would know me better than that.

Some things my mom does still never cease to amaze me. I have since just ignore most of the wacky things.
Has she always been strange with gifts, or is this the first time? Do you think this could have been some sort of joke present? Are you going to Vegas soon!??? lol.
Maybe call her up and tell her you got the present and see what her reaction is and go from there. If it was a serious gift - just let her know that it either didn't fit (true) or it isn't your style (still true), but thank her for thinking of you. I have found that over time, people's tastes seem to take a nose dive. lol.

Yeah, I'd be WTF-ing if my mom sent me that. Especially if you're close with your mom (which I know you are). That's weird. A lime green sequined vest? You have to post a picture.
I would probably broach the subject with her and see what she says. Maybe (?) there's an explanation...but I don't know how. Sorry, girl. That would hurt my feelings, too, especially since it was a month late.
This is going to sound horrible, but if you're close to her, and she knows your taste in clothes, you may consider to have your mom evaluated by a doctor. It sounds strange that your mom sent you a wacky birthday present a month late.
When my grandma started to display signs of age-related dementia, my mom and aunts were always talking about how funny grandma was becoming, and how silly she was sometimes. If only we had known the truth!
Brandi this was my first thought too. So I'd call her and gently ask her where she got the exciting green sequined vest because it's too big... see where the conversation goes from there.
I'm hoping it's a joke.

It kind of coordinates with your comforter. Not saying that your comforter is hideous, but I'm saying that it belongs on a bed.
Maybe you could make that thing into a shiny sleeveless throw pillow??

I had this thought too--if this is completely unusual, wacky behavior, it might be good to just double check.
I have to admit- it's better than I thought it was going to be. I was picturing something like you would see at a jazz recital- 100% sequins! You never know what sales pitch she was given either. Sequined vests are trendy right now. Google it- everyone from Neimans to Ann Taylor has one. But I agree w/ PP who said talk to her since this seems so out of character.
