C started waking up in the night over a week ago. She was waking up when G would wake up out of sorts and hollering for Mommy. She would doze offf if we rocked her but wake up when put down. After 90 minutes - 2 hours, she would go to sleep. Took her to the doctor and she had an ear infection. She then slept through the night again 3 nights in a room. Then this week she has been waking up again sometimes on her own, sometimes from her brother. She is WIDE awake. Yesterday it was around 4 and today 3. Yesterday I did get her back to sleep, tried to wait until she was sound enough that she would stay asleep. Then she woke up. I put her in bed with us and she did go back to sleep (yes I know this is a mistake). Today nothing worked. DH took her downstairs after she had been awake for two hours. Around 6:30 I put her back in her bed and she went to sleep.
I thought it was her ears still bothering her, but we went back to the doctor and they were looking good. She has still been taking two naps somedays. Wednesday she took one and then slept through the night. I thought well maybe she was sleeping too much during the day. Thursday she took two naps but I work her up at one hour each time. She slept later. Yesterday I made sure she only took one nap, but it was maybe 1 hr 15 min. She was asleep at 7:30, wide awake at 3. She could have been overtired from not sleeping enough the night before and not enough nap.
I am at a loss. Perhaps now she is even more messed up from her schedule being absolutely off. Anyone else experience this? Any insight on how to get my baby girl to understand the middle of the night is not a time for play? TIA. I need to get this solved!
Re: TR: Sleep help
I wish I had advice, but I don't. However-G has been going through something really similiar. The last month or so she's been sleeping really terribly, but every 10days or so she'll STTN and I think it's going to get better. (and it doesn't).
We've been bad about her schedule since it's summer and we've been out later than usual because of the nice weather and longer daylight. We've tried to be stricter about bedtime and naps. I've realized if she takes 2 decent naps, she sleeps better. If she has 1 nap, or 2 short she'll wake up more often; probably because she's overtired/overstimluated.
My only advice is to keep her on a strict schedule and give her a few days to get back into the groove of things. It took G a couple days of getting her back on track with two naps and bedtime at 8, but she seems to be doing better. Have you tried a later bedtime too? We moved G's from 7:30 to 8/8:15 and it seems to help too.
GL...I hope things improve. I know how hard it is when they don't sleep!
(And fwiw, we rocked G back to sleep or brought her in bed with us when she was sleeping bad. I don't think it's had a long term effect on her sleep, but I could be totally wrong.)
(second thought...we also gave G a sippy of water to bring to bed with her. I don't know if it has helped but she does wake up and drink it sometimes.)
