Eighth Anniversary 5000 Comments 500 Love Its First Answer
in October 2010 Weddings
So, Chris and I are driving from Ottawa to Moncton, NB this summer and are looking for somewhere decent to stop about half way.  That would put us right around the NH/ME border.  Are there any fantastic little towns that we should choose to spend a night in?  Or, on the flip side, any that we should avoid like the plague?

    I'm not super familiar with Northern NH/ME, but maybe the White Mountains area? Conway/North Conway is a nice area.  Small town feel, with ski resorts and decent outlets.

    We stayed here when we went up there a couple of months ago to get our dog. Though it felt a bit like the Shining - big white inn, in the middle of nowhere - the room was nice, and the bar downstairs was good. (We got there at 7 o'clock in the middle of winter. It was much too dark to explore at all.)

    Third Anniversary
    Jackson NH is also a nice area.  We stayed at the Christmas Farm Inn for our mini-moon.  We stayed in Vixen, which is in the main inn.  It was great there. They have a restraunt downstairs with a pub.  www.christmasfarminn.com   The inn keepers helped us find all kinds of free things to do while we were there.  We spent only $50 above the cost of our room the entire weekend!!  It is close to Conway/North Conway area with outlets and Near some of the major ski resorts that have things like zipline tours and horseback riding in the summer.  Also Bar Harbor ME is a nice area. Many of our friends go to Pittsburg, NH too.  It is in the middle of nowhere.  They love it though.  I've never been.  If you find an area in particular let me know.  I'll ask around and try to help get some insight!

    If you are looking for somewhere in NH right on the border.....Portsmouth is a cute town right along the water.  Some great places to eat.  It is on the other side of the bridge from Kittery ME where the outlets are.

    There's also Freeport,ME, which is about an hour north of Portland.  Same outlets as Kittery, but with the addition of the flagship LL Bean store. 

    I also like Portsmouth - I wasn't sure how far south you'd be headed, but out of all the suggestions, Portsmouth is my favorite.

    (And this just made me realize I haven't seen Jenna around in ages -  she'd be the perfect person to answer this, if she's still here.)
