Old house smell

My BF lives in a house that was built in the 1950's. It's clean and somewhat renovated however for some reason I feel like it still has the old house smell. Any tips on how to get the smell out? I have purchased the flowerwalls from Bath and body works - will those work? Thanks!

Re: Old house smell

  • Steam clean the carpets, and then killz the walls and put fresh paint on them. Put open boxes of baking soda in all of the cabinets, and steam clean any hard wood floors.
  • Isn't there a paint that puts Arm & Hammer in the paint now? I think it might be Zinnzer's primer...my sister was telling me about it the other day (she works at a hardware store, usually in the paint dept.).

But definitely do what Stargazer tells ya, she's renovating an old house and knows what to do!

Aww, I'm glad I'm an expert at something. Hopefully it'll all be worth it in the end.

  • My house was built in 1919. While it doesn't have that old house smell, it did stink when we moved in from being closed up for a year and a half. Opening all of the windows on and off for a few days after we moved in really helped.
