Its official!

We are moving to the Tampa Area.

DH's job will be in Riverview and we are tossing up ideas of what town to live in or at least narrow the search to.

Any suggestions? Also how long would it take to commute to Riverview from New Tampa? Too far? He would be going against the traffic so I suppose not as busy of a commute.

What else do I need to know?

Oh, and who is going to be my tour guide when we come visit, hehe?

Re: Its official!

  • Congratulations!  When are you moving?

We live in Tampa Palms which is in New Tampa.  We're really close to I-75 which is really convenient.  That said, my husbands job is only one exit south on I-75 and he does back roads to avoid the backup of people going into downtown.  Also, if you're in a part of New Tampa that is off of Bruce B. Downs Blvd the traffic can be really bad due to the road construction.

I don't know if you're renting or looking to buy, but if you need a realtor, let me know.  Ours has an office in Brandon, but she took us to a number of places in the greater Tampa area so we could get a feel what was "right" for us.

    Good luck with the move!

We are going to rent at least for the first year while we get an idea of the areas we like. Right now we are in the Ft. Lauderdale area.

I did contact a realtor who I went back and forth with but she was supposed to send me listings and 4 days later still hasn't. So I may take you up on that.

The move is set to take place in 6-8 weeks! I feel like that is so soon and I should probably start packing...lol.

We also are planning a trip up there in the next few weeks to check the areas out.

  • I havent made that drive in a long time but I used to work in close to the new tampa area and traffic coming into tampa/brandon/ riverview in the morning was always at a stand still and in the afternoon going back to new tampa was just as bad.
  • Its quite a drive. Why don't you look into Riverview area? there's lots of great communities here and lots of young families.

We live in Riverview, so are some of the girls on here. I would say its a pretty nice place to live in. We live right off the interstate and its so convenient to Tampa Downtown area.

What is Valrico like? I tried to look up places in Bloomingdale but it says that isn't a town. is that considered Riverview or Valrico?

Forgive me , because I am only going by what I see on the maps..lol

I definitely want to live in a place where there are young families. We don't have children yet but hope to some day and aren't really party animals either.

  • I know a ton of people who live in  Riverview and love it. Definitely look into that area! I think driving from New Tampa will be a nightmare. My H takes 75 all the time at all hours of the day for work and he says it's awful at rush hour. HTH and welcome to the area! :)

  • We live in Riverview, but it's right on the edge of Brandon/Tampa at 301 close to the crosstown. It's so convenient! There are quiet a few places in my neighborhood for rent (including the one we currently live in, since we're moving to south tampa to be closer to my school)!
  • Welcome to the board!!

My parents live on the outskirts of Valrico-- They live in Plant City but have lots of land. Anyways Valrico is a nice area. There are established homes and neighborhoods and some good schools. Depends on what you are looking for. I recommend checking out Riverview, as it is newly developing and lots of young families! HTH :o)

Its doesn't seem like Valrico has a heck of a lot of rentals in my price range available.

We really want a single family house preferably in a community that has some amenities (a pool at the very least).

Hopefully we can make sense of the neighborhoods when we go up there to visit.

  • I'm in the New Tampa area, and I love it, and it's everything you're describing in terms of your lifestyle.

    Except the location.

I imagine we all have varying degrees of what we consider crappy traffic, but between the traffic in New Tampa and the traffic in Brandon, and then you throw in I-75 every day, and, well, I just wasn't blessed with enough patience.

I'm not all that familiar with the Brandon-Valrico-Riverview areas, but I think Riverview is probably your best bet. I dog-sat for a friend there once and I loved it. Totally could've seen myself living there. I've heard a lot of good things, but I don't know any specific neighborhoods to check out. Sounds like a visit is in order. :-)

A visit is definitely in order.

I really would love to know some definite communities that are good to look into. I am not sure how much we can accomplish in just one weekend trip, I am excited for the possibility of some  new friends though. After moving here we haven't made any friends and most of the neighbors are senior citizens..lol

PS- your kid is freaking adorable.
