I have just recently fallen in love with makeup. I have a big caboose case (I think thats what its called..) but I can't seem to keep things organized ..
Ideas??
(Also, I'm hoping to get a vanity soon...so that may help?)
Re: Makeup organization
I recently converted my home office into a makeup room of sorts. (Just the desk, anyway). For me, it's not about being organized, but being able to see what I have so I can use it.
I find that keeping things separated by type helps a lot. I have a lot of eyeshadows of various brands, so I got the z-palette and depotted everything, so I could pop them all into the magnetic palette and see them together. That helped me see and use everything at once.
Now that I'm not in the bathroom, I store things differently. I have vases with beads (like Sephora). One for brushes, one for pencils. I have a lipstick organizer from the container store, so they're not jumbled up - and I can see everything.
I can try and post pictures later -- still working on cleaning up my desk area and getting it so it's optimally efficient for me.

I have a 3 drawer storage unit in my bathroom, but everything just gets thrown in and it is sometimes hard to find things. I just bought this makeup organizer from and love it. http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.item.H165015.desc.Luxury-Deluxe-Wood-Cosmetic-Box-wMirror-by-Lori-Greiner
Everything is nice and neat now. I still put some of my larger palettes in the 3 drawer, but it is much easier to find smaller pieces with this new box.
We have a small space and I need to often be able to grab my stuff and go for trips so I have one of these: http://www.marykay.com/awelander/color/travelrollupbag/10034489/10034489/default.aspx
I love it because of the fact that I can grab one of the 4 bags on it and take it and go or roll up the whole thing and go...
I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to make-up, so this might not be what you need. My bathroom vanity is small, so space is an issue. I use the little 3-drawer organizer that you can find at Walmart, Target, etc. The top drawer is "eye stuff," (liners, shadows, mascara) the middle drawer is "lip stuff" (liners, glosses, stains, lipsticks) and the bottom drawer is "face stuff" (original, I know
) with blushes, brushes, and my foundation/powder. Since Google Chrome doesn't let me link on here, here's a pic of my organizer: http://www.amazon.com/Sterilite-20038006-Countertop-See-Through-Titanium/dp/B002BA5F5W/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1308577689&sr=8-5
Also, my niece LOVES her make-up bag from Thirty-One Gifts http://catalog.thirtyonegifts.com/page38_39.html On the webpage, it's on the lower-right-hand side and you can click it to enlarge the picture. She says it holds a ton, and it's easy for her to pick up and go when spending the night somewhere.
Hope this helps!
Having a vanity really helps. I have 2 drawers - one has nail polish and remover and the top drawer has my face wash, moisterizer, foundation and powder so I do all that in the bathroom.
In my bedroom I have one of those 3 drawer things from Target. Top - mascara and eye liner, middle - hair ties and clips, bottom - nail clippers, tweezers, file, and eyelash curler
I also have a drawer similar but its just 1 big drawer and that has all my eye shadow. I need to buy a 3 drawer one though so I can separate out colors but I tend to wear the same 2 or 3 colors to work and only change it up if I go out and want to match an outfit.
