BCP Question

Is anyone on Ortho Lo?

I was just switched from the regular dose Ortho to Lo, and I'm on my first week in the pack. Starting last night I've been experiencing bad cramps. I've been googling and it doesn't seem like cramping is a typical symptom of this pill. Has anyone experienced this?

They're weird cramps. Like, dull, always effing there cramps. My doc said the only difference I should notice was some spotting. And I haven't noticed any of that.

TIA ladies!

Re: BCP Question

  • I am on Sprintec, which is the generic Lo and I've never experienced that. It actually eased my horrible monthly problems which included painful cramps for about 2 straight days each cycle.

...... Wait wait wait. I've been taking sprintec the last year, thinking it was Lo. But then when I went to refill my prescription last week at CVS, the pharmacist said "This prescription is for Tri Cyclen Lo, this isn't what you've been taking. Do you know that?" I said "ummm.... I thought I've been on the generic of Lo the last year" she said no, I hadn't. That there is no generic for Lo. I thought last year the pharmacy made a mistake and I had been taking the regular dose the whole time.

    What. The. Eff.

That's strange, cause my old Dr put me on Sprintec when I told her I was on Ortho Lo in college and told me that it was the generic. Then again, this b*tch was crazy and isn't even in OB/GYN practice anymore. I just googled it and it's showing as generic for both Ortho and Ortho Lo.

Yeah I googled too after you said that. But there's no way one medication can be the generic for both the regular and Lo dose. That's not even possible. I'm going to call my pharmacist and doc today and see what the deal is.

  • Trinessa is the generic for Tri Cyclen, or at least it is when I get it. I can't be on the low dose, but I would imagine there's a generic for the Lo as almost everything has a generic.

  • If you google "generic ortho lo" you get an answer that there's no such generic, yet if you google Sprintec, the first one that pops up lists all it is generic for and it includes both regular and lo.

Summer, if it's not the same then that may explain when I went back on BCP I had no issues like I did with the nausea on the actual Ortho Lo

There are many medications that don't have a generic.

And I used to be on Trinessa as well, when I was on Tri Cyclen.

Thanks ladies. Hopefully the doc can clarify.

    Wendi,

I'll let you know what they tell me!
