Hi. I am not sure if I have the right area or not for New York. I am looking to come up to the fingerlakes for a girls weekend. I was wondering what area was the best to stay at - as far as lake wise. And do you have any favorite wineries up there? Thanks so much.
Jen
Re: Fingerlakes...
Yes, the Finger Lakes are a bit north of this board, but I have been there several times. I've done wine tours on Seneca and Cayuga. Lucas winery is quite good, and you may want to check out Knapp, Thirsty Owl (I believe they do some polka thing there) and Hosmer. There is a place started by a German guy and they have a fabulous Reisling, sorry I can't remember the details.
I haven't done any Keuka wineries, but have spent time on the lake- it made for a breathtaking weekend. Definitely get in the water and try to hike up to the old church if you go there. there's also an amazing pie place associated with that lake- super yum, especially with some vanilla hagen daas
We hung around Seneca lake....
I'd highly recommend the B&B - The Pearl of Seneca Lake. Amazing location, right on the water. The rooms are wonderful, reasonably priced and the property is amazing. They have their own dock, a campfire area, lovely decks overlooking the lake. Just beautiful!
We toured many wineries. I really liked Glenora because their tasting was more complete (they pair wines with cheeses). Arcadian, Lakewood and Hazlitt were all nice. Leidenfrost was really terrific. Their wines were different and the property is really lovely.
Wildflower Cafe and The Red Newt had great food, so did Glenora.
We also went to the Fingerlakes Distillery and got some amazing bourbon.
I highly recommend Watkins Glen Park - you walk up and around this gorge with beautiful waterfalls. Not really intense or rigorous either.
Feel free to ask more questions!
