Anyone watch Miss USA last night?

Re: Anyone watch Miss USA last night?

  • I didn't even know it was on...I don't know that I would have watched though if I did. I understand the point of pageants and have nothing against them, I just don't find them that interesting to watch.

  • Agreed.  However, Toddlers and Tiaras took an hour from me yesterday.  I just couldn't take my eyes off the parental train wreck!

I saw the commercial the other day for the Eden Wood vs. Whatever that other girl is who wins all the time showdown and promptly set the DVR. LOL!

LOL!  That is the one that I watched.  It is just too much.  The parents..I just don't even know what to say.

  • I totally missed it, didn't know it was on and I'm bummed.  I normally watch them too.  Will you give a recap? :)

Oh man, my favorite Toddlers/Tiaras name was Sparkal Queens. It was almost drag-queen sounding, I felt bad for the kid.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

  • I watched it, I was rooting for Miss Hawaii, she was so adorable, I didn't care so much fro Miss Texas. I wish they had a talent section. I found the commetary on the background by Kelly Osbourne and the other lady a little annoying and distracting. As far as hosts, Andy Cohen is annoying, too and somebody need to tell him that his not funny.

    1. It kind of made me sad when they were showing old clips and the woman looked so graceful and sexy in one-piece bathing suits...now they walk around on stage in barely there clothing

    2. Whoever that "artist" was was horrible, I fast-forwarded through every part he sang

    3. Even though I'm from Texas I really liked California :) It was nice that she was naturally a blonde who chose to be a red head...you don't see that very often BUT...I don't know how she will stack up to the exotic beauties in the Miss Universe Pageant. But I was tied between Texas and Cali

    4. The last question responses were a joke.....pretty much every girl sounded like a complete moron

Q: "(In ref: to the Quran) Should burning of any religious article be protected by the 1st Am., the same way burning the flag is protected?"

Miss TN's A: "Absolutely Not....burning the American flag is not patriotic at all"

The only person whose answer was a complete sentence and had a meaning was Texas.

Enlighten me then. Because I've never understood the point. I know they say the women have to have all the areas like brains, talent, etc. But let's face it, all little girls see when they watch them is that it's a contest to see who is prettier. I'm not sure that's the best image for girls. But, what do I know.

    I second this ... that's ridiculous.

This is just my personal experience, so take it as you will. My step-sister was very unsure of herself and did not have a lot of self-esteem when she was in 9th grade. Because all of her friends were doing it, she expressed interest in doing a local small town pageant to my mom, who signed her up. She won some sort of consultation prize and was so happy. She began to do other pageants and won some college money and gained a boatload of self-esteem. Today she credits pageants with her ability to speak in front of strangers.

Like Extreme Couponing and Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, TLC has taken the worst aspects of the pageants and magnified them to appease the reality TV audience. There are lots of very nice girls who compete in pageants that are complete polar opposites of those shown on TV.

That is so great for her!! It's nice when the pageants work like they are supposed to! But I am SURE most of it is a beauty contest...I knew a girl that her DAD bought her fake breast when she was like 17 for x-mas....because of her pageants. Thats taking it to a whole other level of creepiness to me!! (of course she did win Miss Dallas this year) BAHAHAHA

  • That's a great story, Leslie! I'm glad to hear it helps some girls!
