Introduction and a couple questions
Hello,
A small introduction since we are moving from Seattle to Apple Valley the first week of July. I have a 17 month old little boy and a pug/beagle mix dog. I am looking forward to getting to know the area and meeting new people. If you have any suggestions of fun things to do please let me know. I also have a couple questions and thought you could help me.
Can anyone recommend a pediatrician in the Apple Valley area?
Do you know any local pet stores in the area?
Anything else you would like to tell me about the area would be great.
Thank you.
Re: Introduction and a couple questions
Welcome!
Eagan Valley Pediatrics all the way! http://www.eaganvalleypeds.com/
I grew up in a family of four and we all went there. My 4 year old niece also goes there. And my future kids will go there :-)
Welcome!
Chuck and Don's is a local pet store. I know there's one in Eagan, not sure about Apple Valley. Eagan isn't too far from AV, though. The people there know a ton about food and pets in general.
Tired after a long morning of hiking and swimming.
I don't know of a pediatrician in AV - but I have been impressed with the AV Medical Center as a whole. A great gf of mine is a PA (physician assistant) there and I've been in to see her there.
AV has a fantastic emergency vet - I hope you never have to use it, but they do a fantastic job. I can't remember exactly what street it's on - it's just a few blocks off of Cedar/Hwy 77.
I will agree with everyone else regarding Chuck & Don's Pet Food Outlet. We love them!
I don't know AV incredibly well, but it's not too far from both major downtown areas, and as long as you have a car, you'll be able to get around quite well.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I totally let getting a vet skip my mind. We will need one of those too. My husband took Samson(dog) to the vet today to get him his shots.
I should be working but I do not feel like it since its my last week.
Samson:
I live in Rosemount, and I used to live in Eagan, and both of those cities border Apple Valley so I'm familiar with the area.
I'm no help on the pediatrician as my only "child" has four legs and a tail :-)
For pet food, as others have suggested, Chuck & Don's is in Eagan near the intersection of 35E and Yankee Doodle Road. They have a lot of good products. It's a chain, but I think they're only in the Twin Cities area so it's a locally-based chain.
I also shop at a cute little store in Rosemount called Fluegel's Market, which might be closer for you than Chuck & Don's, depending on where you're located in Apple Valley. It's a farm & garden market but they have a lot of good pet products. They carry many of the premium brands of food & treats that you can't get at stores like Target or WalMart. They also have a great nursery if you need garden supplies or plants. I like to support local stores when I can!
We take our dog to a vet in West St. Paul at Skadron Animal Hospital, just because our vet is a friend of ours from church. We love her, and it's totally worth driving to WSP to see her. But, if you want to stick closer to home, at least one nestie on our board (Lily I think?) has highly recommended Shamrock Animal Hospital in Rosemount.
Hope your move goes smoothly and welcome to Minnesota!

Hi & Welcome to MN
Your Dog is so cute. I can't help you with the Pet needs but I can help you with your Child needs
We really like Southdale peds they have a office Burnsville, we go to the Eden Prairie & Edina offices. Once you have moved in and ready to meet other local area Moms Feel free to join in any of our MN Bump GTG (Link to our calender found in my sig). Also If you are looking for a great park to play in with your little one Kelly Park (behind Home Depot) has a great Splash Pad.
Feel free to PM (or just post it over on the MN bump page) if you have any other questions about the GTGs or other local fun things to do in MN
Hi and welcome to "south of the river." We live in burnsville but see to do alot in apple valley. We are involved in activities in both Burnsville and AV's community, so let me know if you have questions! I have a 3 year old and 15 month old. As far as peds, I reccommend Southdale Peds. Its in burnsville. There are also several county parks in the area to take advantage of. ECFE in district 196 is a positive experiance as well.
Good luck on your move!
Welcome! We love Chuck and Dons, there is one in Lakeville and they are very decently priced too.
For fun things to do with child in AV. There are tons of parks, one of our favorites is Kelley Park which has a play ground, large grass area to run and a splash pad. Also the MN Zoo is close. Not sure if you will stay home with LO but there is some excellent free weekeday activities too. Let me know if you want more information. We live about 20 minutes away from AV (south) so we go there often.
