AW: M's Father's Day surprise PIPs

I did my 1st photo shoot using my home set-up with M for Alexi for Father's Day.  They aren't perfect (I learned about the shadows for next time!), but he still loved them and I thought I'd share a few of your adorable niece.

  • So cute!  Love the idea!  Also, I think my DH has those same shoes.

(For the shadows just turn her a bit more to face the light source coming in from the right, turn off your flash (or power it way down) and open up your aperture you were at f/7.1 and could have gone to at least f/5.6 Stick out tongue)

Were you using seamless along with the barnwood?

The blue and the barnwood are both bulletin board paper.  I haven't bought any seamless yet.  If I place her further in front of the wall, will that help with the shadows, too?  I had her just a few inches from the back of the backdrop.

Thanks for the tips, now I want to rush home and try it out. :)  I was using the flash b/c I had my set up in the basement and I missed the best light of the day that we have down there.  I heard that shooting in a garage is good b/c you get a lot of natural light, but not the direct glare from the sun and my basement is the same way as we have huge windows down there and it's a walk-out.  Of course M didn't want to take pictures in the morning when the light was better.

Oh good idea with the blue bulletin board paper!  I have the barnwood as well, love it!

Yes, exactly!  You can pull her out a bit more and that will help too (just depends on how wide you have the paper unrolled to (you can always crop back in later)

For you flash are you using the onboard or an external?  If you have an external, see if you can bounce it 45 degrees up and behind you, if you are using the onboard do you have a lightscoop?  If no, see if you can manuall power it down a bit and use it more like fill light.

Haha, yep the garage is a great setup during the right light, sounds like your basement too!  You can work with her schedules :) a bit, as long as you stay away from the mid-day sun - however, since you won't be in the direct light that wouldnt be the worst thing either :)

I can't wait to see more!!!
