DH is having his done on Friday. He is apprehensive to say the least. He doesn't even like to get flu shots, so this is a big deal for him! I've read online, but don't know many people IRL who have had this done. Any experiences? Recovery time? Tips?

Re: Vasectomy experiences?
Thanks for the advice! I will do that for sure. Knowing DH he will still want to wait a year after they say he's clear. I'm not sure which terrifies him more, another baby or the surgery.

Oh good, he will be happy to hear it. He's worried about how long it will take for him to feel "normal" again (ok with walking the dog, running, working out, etc). LOL at "size of a mountain!"

they usually do them on fridays...lol.
DH had his on a friday, and was fine by Monday. He isn't a drama queen, though. He pretty much needed some advil and an icepack the first day, then maybe some advil the second day. We did have the kids spend the weekend with their Granny, just so he could rest and recuperate in peace.
while i was in the waiting room, there was another woman there with 4 kids, all probably under the age of 10, running around like crazy. i laughed a little, thinking "i wonder if this was his idea or hers?".

The only thing that skeeved my DH out was the clothes pin. Apparently, (and I've heard this from several men) they use a rubber band and clothes pin to, ummmm keep the "member" out of the way (if you know what I mean). They put the rubber band around it and use the clothes pin to attach it to their shirt.... Not sure if you should tell him or let him find out for himself
the image of that in my head made me laugh out loud.
hahaha...I definitely won't be mentioning this to DH whenever he decides to get it done!!!

Dh said that there was no way anyone was standing but the doctor
LOL!
Haha. DH also mentioned that one of the worst parts was having his member strapped down to his body. He also disliked the smell of the cauterization and said he was glad he didn't really know what to expect before he went in.

Lol, a friend of ours told his story and the worst part was the manscaping from a dry Bic razor! Although, he asked before hand if he should take care of it himself and they told him no
.
Haha, yes, the clothes pin he can find out for himself - not going to mention that one. They did tell him to shave beforehand, so that will be taken care of.
He's pretty much a "leave me alone until I feel better" kind of person when he's sick, so I think that part will be fine. We'll rent him plenty of movies and stick him in bed with the Kindle, iPad, remote, Advil, frozen peas and food and come back in a few days to check on him. :-P
The hardest thing to do is to try to explain to a very curious 6 1/2 year old what is going on. I finally told her that he's having a tiny surgery on the inside of his leg, but it's too near his bottom for her to see the scar, lol.
I do feel for him since he's so nervous about it, but ya know - 2 kiddos when I am terrible at being pregnant and 2 tears with loootttttts of stiches and I just can't really feel ALL that sorry for him!
