    Doooooo ittttttttttttt.....

It's sad, but there's a TON of bike stores where we live, and I always stop to look at the road bikes. All I have now is a mountain bike. I'd love to buy one, but then I'd probably rarely use it, and I just can't justify the cost. I debated riding to work everyday, since it's about 7mi, but downtown holyoke isn't the safest place.

Haha! I used to work at Walmart in high school and the discount was the best part!

I may order online because it is free shipping but I might pop into the store to test it out if they have it!

  • I love that style of bike...I tried to convince DH that is what we should get for riding, but he convinced me that the mountain bike was more practical for our first bikes...but he did say if I still really wanted he might buy me one like that...which would be perfect for going after the mail right?!?

I say go for it, but get the basket with the little bell to go alongStick out tongue

  • What fun!  I recently got this one (at a sale price in the store):

Since I live in flat Florida (and just down the street from a recreational park), it's easy riding for me.  :-)

  • Yay! Sold. I will most likely get it Friday. I am so excited!
  • Is it flat where you live?  If there are any hills, even ones with a low grade that you wouldn't notice in a car, you're not going to enjoy riding that bike as it's only a 1-speed. Having different gears/speeds makes a bike easier to ride especially up hills.  Other thing to consider is the weight of the bike (can you easily lift it to put in your car; you have to peddle all that weight with you).  While I give that bike style points, for the price I doubt the quality of it.  My bike was $400 and that's low to mid-range when it comes to road bikes (though I did have a <$200 bike I got on sale from a bike shop that was good but couldn't handle steep hills well).  It's kind of a chicken and egg problem: you don't want to spend a lot of money on a bike if you are unsure you will use it, but if you buy a cheap bike you are less likely going to enjoy riding a bike and therefore not use it much.
