My car was stolen

I can't give a lot of details now because the cops should be here any sec, but my car was stolen from my driveway last night. Any T&Ps sent my way right now would be greatly appreciated.

  • I'm so sorry and I understand what you're going through. When mine was stolen last year it was awful and I felt SO violated for a long time after. They found mine in about 36 hours. I hope they find yours as quickly! Keep us updated.
  • Didn't you want your car to be totalled a few weeks ago? Blessing in disguise?

Either way, it sucks. Sorry & hope you get the outcome you want!

  • Well, the cop's first suspicion is XH, or XH's mother.  Since the divorce isn't finalized yet (WTF!) if they have it, there's nothing they can do.  XH has said he knows nothing about it, so they're going to check up on him and his family first.

I just cant believe this.  The cop said that Accords are still the #1 stolen car in American and older ones, even 10 year old POS ones, are more often stolen because they're easier to get in to.

I did want my car to be totaled, but here I am just wishing I had my car back.  I only had liability insurance on my car since it was a POS, so I wont get any money from Geico.  My dad is going to check out the homeowner's insurance since it was stolen out of my driveway.

This whole thing is insane.  I cant believe my POS was stolen and I cant believe that XH's mom would be so crazy to do something like this.  Im just confused and at a loss right now. Sad

P.S. Never only have liability, even if your car is a piece of crap.  You never know what can happen.  Lesson learned the hard way.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you car will not be covered by your parent's homeowner's insurance.

Just curious, but why is that? I've always been told that any asset that is on your property would be covered (after you try your separate insurance for that item, of course).

First, that's incorrect. I can't say what will & won't be covered because I don't know your assets nor do I know your policy coverage form.

But typically this incident would be excluded because its covered under an auto policy. Policies typically exclude things because they're better (or should be) covered elsewhere. Prevents battling over who will pay a claim.

Since we're still technically married its a marital asset. He can give her permission to take it.

  • Heh, I was always told that auto insurance was primary, but homeowners would kick in if auto didn't cover it. Good to know.
