I heard the author, Mara Hvistendahl, interviewed on NPR the other day and just read a
book review about it in the Wall Street Journal. Has anyone read the book yet? I just added my name to the library wait list. The book sounds fascinating and horrifying. I always knew that gender selected abortion was being practiced in the developing world, and every once in a while you read about gender imbalance, but I never understood the full consequence or seen the issue presented so completely. The author says the world is currently missing 163 million girls. That's mind boggling to me.
Re: Unnatural Selection
I heard a portion of this interview the other day, too. It was fascinating and pretty scary. Especially the data she had about how in societies where there are large numbers of unmarried men (which happens when there are so few girls), the violent crimes go way up.
