Sorry to be a debbie downer
I just got a call from Rick, and he told me that one of his staffers who was just 17 died last night/this morning in a car crash - the driver walked away from the accident with a few scrapes and bruises. This girl was supposed to watch Josh but got more hours with Rick so she had to decline. She just finished her Junior year and was a smart, good girl.
They are saying speed was a factor (little sports cars and the cruvy roads in Owls Head are not a good combo when you add speed in). I can honestly say that my husband never cries (last time was at his gram's funeral but only after the pastor mentioned how much she loved Josh) and he was sobbing on the phone with me. Once the accident has been investigated the DA will decide to press charges or not the driver himself was only 17.
Make sure you tell your loved ones each and every day how much you love them - life is just far to short!
Re: Life is far to short
Oh Alicia, I am so sorry to hear! Please pass on my condolences to Rick, it is so hard to lose someone in such a tragic accident, especially when they were so young, and with so much potential.
Thinking of you.
The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware; joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware. -Henry Miller

That is too sad, that poor girl. Hearing something like this never fails to make me tear up and want to run and hug all my people. My thoughts and prayers are with her family
Poor Rick! I'm so sorry... MH used to HATE those calls when he was with the PD at Windham (a teenage girl fell asleep at the wheel, a teenage boy driving too fast)... I can only imagine how horrid it is to have a young person who works for you meet this fate.
This is why I have always been grateful to my parents for making it okay for me to call them for a ride if I had any misgivings about getting into a car with someone I didn't trust.
This is also why I'm grateful that none of my bad choices as a teenager ever resulted in something horrible (I used to speed and had a boyfriend who sped a lot).
My thoughts are with you guys and her family...
This is by far the worst part about my job. This year's class was the first one that I've ever had who did not have at least one sudden death (they lost one classmate early in 9th grade to cancer). I was breathless anytime I heard sirens in the weeks leading up to graduation thinking that one of them did something stupid enough. I was so scared.
My thoughts and prayers go to Rick and to the girl's family. I cannot imagine the amount of pain they are going through.
how awful.
