We put in a garden this year and planted a lot of things. Then squirrels (we think) came along and ate a bunch of it. Some things are obviously a total loss, but I'm not sure about the green beans.
Both the pole beans and bush beans (I planted both) had all the leaves stripped off last week, but the stems were left intact. They were all under a foot tall when this happened. Now this week they are starting to grow tiny new leaves at the tops of the stems. Does this mean they have a chance of recovering and bearing beans, or should I write them off and replant them?
Obviously, we're taking measures to protect the plants from this point forward. We should have done that to begin with, but didn't get to it in time.
Re: Will they grow back?
Columbine will come back year after year - especially if they're reseeding.
Beans are different. I would probably put one or two new plants in, and keep an eye on the chewed up ones.
