Martin and I will be going away for 2 1/2 weeks in Sept./Oct.- for shorter trips we always use a pet sitting service (2 days max) who comes once a day and scoops litter, feeds them and plays with them.
My mother in NY (with 4 cats of her own) has offered to watch our kitties who are a year old while we are away because it will be for such a long time. We were thinking of doing a trial run with all the cats together over the 4th of July weekend but I am torn at what to do.
Two out of three of the kitties are easy going and one is afraid of everything.
WWYD?
Take the cats to NY to see how they interact with my mom's cats
Just book the pet sitter for 2 1/2 weeks because they would be better off in there own house.
TIA!
Re: cat/pet people-which is less traumatic for the kitties?
Hmm, I'm gonna say that I think it would be less traumatic for the kitties to stay in their own home.
I know that's probably not the easiest for you, but cats don't always adapt well to a new environment. Plus, with 4 other cats (in a foreign place) things could get iffy and not only will they possibly not get along, but cats can get pissy. Literally. They could pee up your Mom's house or her cats may feel unwelcome in their own home and then start peeing out of spite.
Is there anyone else that could help you check in on them so you don't need the service come in every day? We can get away with having someone come in every other day or every third if plan accordingly with lots of food and water. I'm sorry that I'm not closer or I would help!
And where are you going???
Thanks guys! I will probably end up keeping them at home...Martin was leaning that way more than I was but you guys helped to make up my mind!
Jewels-We are going to Amsterdam, Belgium, Paris and London!
I would DEFINITELY leave them home with a pet sitter visiting. They are much better being a little lonely, than traumatized. A traumatic event with another cat caused my 8 year old cat to start urinating all over the house. It went on for 3 years, with more treatments, cost and stress then you could imagine. Cats are emotionally fragile. I would really try not to mess with that.
