- What are your favorite parts of your job? Least favorite?
- What is your favorite snack? Are you more a sweet person or a salty person?
- What is the last book you read? Do you recommend it or not?
- What is the last movie you saw? Recommended or not?
Aw thanks! This is actually going to be sporadic. I'm in a board meeting all day. Get furloughed for lunch, so I can answer q's then.
- What are your favorite parts of your job? Least favorite?
Favorite is working independently and editing. Also like the creative aspects, using the desktop publishing software. Least favorite is feeling like I'm doing the same thing over and over. There's only so much you can write about dental floss.
- What is your favorite snack? Are you more a sweet person or a salty person?
Probably half and half, with more leaning toward the chocolate. I've been trying to eat healthily lately so I cut the crap out for the most part. My sweet snack now is a kudo's 100 calorie snickers bar. But I am a sucker for a Devil's Dog snack cake and cheesy poofs. Freaking love cheesy poofs. Also, Pop Chips are so good. I had to stop going to BJs cause they have a huge bag for like $4 that I would inhale. Not good.
- What is the last book you read? Do you recommend it or not?
The Help is the last book I finished and yes, I heartily recommend it.
- What is the last movie you saw? Recommended or not?
Last movie? Ah....I can't even remember what the last movie I saw in a theater was...that is so sad. Last movie I watched on TV was When in Rome, and it's only worthwhile for Josh Duhamel.
Where did you meet your husband?
On Cape Cod. He was the bartender at a mexican place my sister and I went to for girls night out. First time we went, I thought he was cute and nice and we flirted a little and he hit me up for a job. So I dismissed his flirting as trying to work an angle. haha Second time we went in, three months later, he was still there, and we hit it off in a big way. It was right after the whole Mel Gibson Malibu arrest thing and I think I charmed him with making a reference to "sugar t*ts."
Do you like Coffee/what's your favorite kind?
Never had it. I know, I'm a freak. Not a fan of hot beverages at all. Tea makes me sick to my stomach. Don't even like coffee ice cream.
what's your most used kitchen item/appliance?
Does the fridge count? hahaha We don't have too many gadget appliances, so pretty much just the stove/oven. I don't even hardly use the microwave. Kitchen item would have to be the wine opener!
If you could start your own business, what business would it be?
Probably a freelance communications thing, where I would write/edit/produce newsletters/brochures for businesses.
ETA: Off to my meeting. I will try to check in on breaks and whatnot, but if you want to swap me out for tomorrow's person, that is fine with me too.
do you wish that you could do editing somewhere other than where you are currently? if so, where?
what is your favorite place to go?
if you could go on vacation right now to anywhere, where would you go?
what are three of your best qualities?
what are three of your worst?
Changing my answer on the what biz would you open question.
I'd open a small bookstore. It angers and saddens me that all the bookstores are going out of business. Not just because of online retailers but because of ebooks. I don't want to imagine a world without actual paper books. And magazines.
~What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
~What is your favorite outdoor activity? Indoor (rainy day) activity?
~Something you like that people wouldn't expect that you like.
- if you had a day free of any obligations what would you do?
- where is your favorite place to shop?
- what is your favorite article of clothing in your closet? What are your favorite shoes?
Just ducked out to tinkle, this is so much more entertaining than a board meeting!
do you wish that you could do editing somewhere other than where you are currently? if so, where?
I would. I like the consumer aspect of one of the publications I work on, so I'd like to pursue that further. My dream job used to be Entertainment Weekly but now it's probably something fitness-oriented, like Runner's World or Shape. Even Self would be interesting.
what is your favorite place to go?
Cape Cod or Newport
if you could go on vacation right now to anywhere, where would you go?
Spain
what are three of your best qualities?
Sense of humor
Considerate of other people's needs
Relatively easy-going and flexible
what are three of your worst?
I can hold a grudge like nobody's business. I blame that on my Irish heritage.
I am impatient. Like, if I want something, I want it now and am not happy until it's in my hands.
I do not deal well with change. At all. Even the slightest change, like moving a sofa, throws my whole balance off. Weird.
~What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Go for a run, then out to breakfast for pancakes. Walk around the city and grab lunch/dinner.
~What is your favorite outdoor activity? Indoor (rainy day) activity?
To paraphrase Charlie Sheen: Duh, running! Indoor would probably watch HGTV's House Hunters and get bummed that we are perennial renters.
~Something you like that people wouldn't expect that you like.
Hong Kong movies. I admit to going to Hong Kong as a result of my love for their 90s cinema.
- if you had a day free of any obligations what would you do?
Just get in the car with B and drive somewhere, up to Portland or down to newport. Love going to ne places and just wandering around.
- where is your favorite place to shop?
Gap or Target.
- what is your favorite article of clothing in your closet? What are your favorite shoes?
Love my Calvin Klein jeans. I have about 6 pairs of them. They are just the best fit for me. Fave shoes are these Tommy Hilfiger black oxford mules I bought in NYC like 6 years ago. I really only like them cause they have a 4-inch heel and added to my nearly 5-11 frame makes me a giant. B can tell when I have a board meeting cause I usually wear them that day to make the tiny fat dentists feel even tinier. I get a kick out of that!

Do you have finger or toe nail polish on? What color?
Do you like your dentist?
Did you ever have braces?
Stand up for something you believe in.
What college did you go to ad what was your major?
Boston University. Psychology major with an unofficial minor in communications, meaning I wasn't part of the program but may as well have been since I ended up taking so many comm courses.
Have you gotten back into running?
Yes, albeit slowly. Had toe surgery last month and favoring that leg in recovery led to my other knee blowing out, so I'm actually in PT for that, and that is slowing me down. Training for the Falmouth Road Race in August, so hopefully I can get up to 7 miles before then.
How's your head?
All better! The only real residual problem from that is I sometimes space on things I feel I should know. Forget a name or something. Otherwise, clean bill of health. Thanks for asking!
Do you have any bad habits?
Bite my nails. Grind my teeth.
What's your favorite song right now?
I am blanking on what songs are out there now (see question one). Last recent song I liked was that Fitz and the Tantrums song, Payback or Moneygrabber?
Would YOU eat a live octopus for $1,000?
Ef no! Don't think I'd eat a cooked one for that price either!
how often do you cook?
whats your favorite thing to cook?
what is your favorite restaurant in Boston area?
what is your favorite restaurant of all time?
what are three of Bill's best traits?
worst traits?
when you said you would like to open a book store, do you think that e-readers are the primary reason book stores are closing?
do you own an e-reader?
How far do you run on an average day?
Used to be 4 miles, now it's 2 miles but eeking closer to 3. That will be my baseline going forward I think, to protect my knees. Not a lot of mileage.
What is one place that you never want to visit and why?
Nice spin on the usual question! Um...I would say India. Just have no desire. Don't like the food, can live without intense heat and humidity, and cows and bugs running rampant.
Where do you want to go in Spain?
Barcelona. Madrid. Any coastal town.
Do you have finger or toe nail polish on? What color?
Nothing on my fingers. My toes have an OPI pale purple/beige shade the name of which I am drawing another blank on. Have to wear polish n the toes cause they are nasty from running.
Do you like your dentist?
This question is an occupational hazard for me! haha Essentially, yes I do. He's funny. But he charges too much. I also kinda like him cause every time I go in there, he talks smack about my company.
Did you ever have braces?
I did. And then I stopped wearing my retainer and my wisdom teeth came in and my lower teeth all shifted. If I could afford Invisalign, I'd get that now.
Back in an hour!
how often do you cook?
Used to be "rarely" but since B gets home later from work than I do now, and I don't like eating dinner at 9 pm (7 is my timeframe), I end up doing most of the cooking these days. And we try to be healthy so that means we eat at home more often than not, so I cook about 5-6 nights of the week. B will cook 1 or 2, or maybe we'll get salads from Panera.
whats your favorite thing to cook?
I make an awesome homemade chicken pot pie.
what is your favorite restaurant in Boston area?
Border Cafe in Harvard Square. Best mexican food on the East Coast. get the chicken burro. It's delightful.
what is your favorite restaurant of all time?
Probably the Border Cafe. Also love the Cheesecake Factory, and Pizzeria Regina in the North End. And the Flying Bridge in Falmouth.
what are three of Bill's best traits?
Sense of humor. He's hilarious and just makes me laugh every day.
He's ridiculously smart. He's like Good Will Hunting smart. Right down to the Boston townie upbringing.
He's a loyal and good son/brother/friend. One of the first things that drew me to him was that he'd given up his job/apartment/life to in CT to move to the Cape and take care of his parents when they realized they couldn't take care of themselves anymore. My family is important to me and I have a similar role with my parents, so I related on a hugely deep level.
worst traits?
That loyalty thing I talked about? Yeah. I think it may be a guy thing or a Boston neighborhood where he's from thing, or maybe just a not-me thing, but I don't get how he can stay loyal to some friends who just take advantage of him and aren't there for him. Yet, they need something and he's there. Drives me crazy. I would drop them like a lost call.
He's not the tidiest person. Leaves stuff (mail, papers, clothes) lying around and clutter drives me up a wall.
Road rage. He can get so worked up over someone cutting him off.
when you said you would like to open a book store, do you think that e-readers are the primary reason book stores are closing?
I think it's a combination of things, really. First and foremost are the Amazons and online retailers. There's been a shift from brick-and-mortar retailing to online retailing dating back 12 years or more, and it's especially affected the book market. Amazon has a huge title base and offers pricing discounts that stand-alone book stores can't compete with, because they have overhead and they don't/can't carry every title, whereas Amazon basically can.
So, the online aspect has had a creeping effect for years, but I do think that e-readers are the final nail in the coffin for hard copy books. It's the same thing that's happened with the music industry. The younger generations are just so much more tech-savvy and were brought up with so many more technological advances than previous generations (email, computers in classrooms, the Internet even, iTunes, smart phones, etc) so their expectations are different. They only know a world with online shopping with free shipping if you spend $25, or dowloading songs immediately. No driving to a store and finding out they don't have a title you're looking for.
E-readers offer ease of use and are a cheaper alternative to real books, hence the appeal.
do you own an e-reader?
Not too surprising: An emphatic no! I actually got one for xmas and returned it. It's just not for me. I don't like the flatness of it. I like holding an actual book in my hands and feeling the pages turn, and seeing my progress. I love the smell of the ink on the paper. I am a tactile person, and I just think I woudn't be as eager to read with an e-reader as I am with an actual book.
