A wedding question to start the day off

This morning on the radio the DJ?s were talking about an upcoming wedding and what is appropriate to wear to this wedding. The invite said, ?Black Tie Optional.? Now, don?t Google it or copy some excerpt from ?The Perfect Wedding Attire? but rather tell me what YOU (and your H) would wear to the wedding. Bonus points for PIPs.

  • To me Black Tie optional means wear a tux if you have one, but don't feel the need to rent one just for the occasion.  A nice suit and tie for the guys works (preferably black suit with white shirt though - to look close to a tux).  For me, I'd probably wear a long gown vs a knee length one.

This. But all that said, we have one on Sunday and I do not have a long gown. I'll be wearing a knee-length black dress and will just have to accessorize to make it fancy.

  • Pretty much what Kara said. The wedding will be very formal, but there isn't a need to go out of the way to rent a tux or get a $$$$$ dress if you have something almost as nice.

Although if you are a family member and going to be in pictures it would probably be a good idea to wear something black tie, but not quite necessary for the other guests.

Agree with Kara & Claire-- I think tea length can be somewhat appropriate depending on the style of the dress as well....
  • Suit for DH, since he already owns one, and I'd likely get the type of dress you could you could find at Black House White Market. A nice one.
  • I don't own a long dress and probably wouldn't run out to buy one since i can't see using it again. I'd wear my black dress and bring a nice pashmina.

actually, in reality, C would wear my black dress and I'd wear my black & white one...

ETA: these are the dresses in question. both are knee length. i don't have a better photo here though.

This.  I have a tea length black dress from a wedding I was in that I'd wear.  If it fit, that is ;).

I don't like buying new things to wear to weddings that I'll never wear again, so since he doesn't own a tux, Matt would wear a nice suit and tie. I don't own a long gown, so I'd wear a knee length dress.
