Mustang Island, Port Aransas... ever been?

Re: Mustang Island, Port Aransas... ever been?

  • Well I went with my friend's youth group in '92 or '93 for a week.  It was a nice place then.   I have no idea what it is like 18 years later!  (OMG!  It's been 18 years!?!?!?)

  • We just got back from a long w/e there a couple of days ago.  It's ok.  The beaches are nice but you have to buy a parking permit ($12).  There are lots of souvenir shops and restaurants.  The UT Marine Science Instittue is supposed to be really nice to tour.  Overall, it is a nice little getaway that isn't too far.

  • No, but there is an excellent episode of King of the Hill where they go to the miniature museum in Port Aransas and get mobbed by drunk spring break students. Good stuff!
  • we went there for my BFF's bachelorette party and stayed in a beach house that one of the other bridesmaids owns.  it was GREAT.  i loved it, although it is a long drive.

i don't recall the beach access permit issue, but we never drove actual cars, we mostly took the golf cart to the beach.

This. If you rent a house, or stay in a condo on the beach, you shouldn't have to worry about parking. The beaches in Port Aransas are nicer than Galveston, but not as nice as South Padre. So, for a little bit of a farther drive, you get nicer beaches. :) The marine institute is nice, and you could also drive into Corpus to see the aquarium and/or battleship. DH's school took the kids to Port Royal (condos) for their spring trip and they had a really good time.
