"personhood" is coming to you

I'd been bitching about the ridiculous "personhood" amendment in Colorado for awihle. Thankfully, we soundly defeated it by voting against it with over 70% of the vote. ?Bad news. ?They haven't taken that as a sign to give up on the crazy.

"A new pro-life organization, Personhood USA, plans to assist local pro-life groups in different states to put personhood amendments on their states ballot by using the petition process.The?17 States that allow citizens to place constitutional amendments on ballots will be the target states. Personhood USA will also help with opinion petitions to encourage politicians to run personhood amendments in other states. During the Colorado Personhood campaign, organizers were contacted by individuals in many different states with excitement and the desire to start personhood efforts in their own state.

?Praise Jesus! The pro-life tide is rising in America, now is the time for the entire pro-life movement to turn the focus off from permitting murder but attempting to ?regulate? it, to pushing for the recognition of the God given right to life for all innocent persons. Persons are humans beings from the moment of fertilization.? Cal Zastrow, Co-Founder of Personhood USA"

  • Actually there was something similar that was recently killed in CA, by a woman from San Jose no less. She included in the initiative that God was the creator of Earth and Life. It got the smack down before it ever saw the light of day. Take that, crazy.

Fantastic.  I totally expect this to come to my state.

Ditto.  Citizen-sponsored ballot measures sounds good in theory, but from my vantage point, it sucks rocks in practice.

  • Ugh. I'd say I'm glad I live in a blue state, but on the other hand, we just approved gambling.

Isn't legal gambling a typically "blue" idea? ?I've heard the fundies rail against it. ?Of course, it's pro-business, but it's also the legalizing of a vice which is a more liberal idea.

I guess my confusion as to which side normally wants it is possibly why I'm never sure if I approve or not.?

  • CT is definitely blue and we have two huge casinos.  They bring a lot of revenue to the state....and they are TONS of fun!  I am all for it.  Casinos bring in a lot of new jobs too.

  • I wonder what could be accomplished if all of this energy was put towards preventing unwanted pregnancies - whether the pregnancy part or the unwanted part.
