Re: Interesting Article
So many benefits! I urge all of my clients to do this and they always do. :-) I learned about it in my birthing class. I wish this was just standard practice by all OB/GYNs and Midwives.

So... do we put in in our birth plan? Tell the OB during one of our appts? I have a feeling I may forget this at the time, if I just had to tell them verbally.
Also, I am not sure how much people look at birth plans. Mine was pretty standard, so I don't know if they paid much attention or not...
Tasha, yes, put it in your birth plan and make sure to go over the birth plan with your OB. If you need help putting one together I would be more than happy to help! :-) Make sure to use polite wording and keep it to one page. I can send you examples, too.
Our birth plan was followed and looked at often. Our midwives had copies, as did our nurses (we took copies to the hospital with us). We also kept an extra copy in our hospital binder. Part of it is making sure to advocate for yourself. It is your birth, your body, and your child, you have the right to do what is right!

Yes, put in in your birth plan and make sure to review the birth plan with your provider prior to labor and delivery. Also, take extra copies to the hospital so that you make sure the nurses see it. Be sure to use polite wording and keep it to one page. I have an example, if you would like me to send it to you.
If you have a good OB and good nurses they SHOULD look at and respect your birth plan. Be sure to advocate for yourself as it is your birth, your body, and your baby! :-)
