My mom found my car and we're the worlds biggest idiots.

My mom found my car. It wasn't stolen. I met her Monday morning at her water aerobics to go to the beach and we left it there. We both forgot about it. I feel like such an idiot. I can't believe we forgot. My mom said it's evidence of how much stress we're under. I say it's evidence that I did not drink enough last night. Sad but I am very very very relieved to have my POS back!

  • Oh man!  I'm sorry, I had to giggle a little but I'm glad your car is back and ex-h isn't up to shenanigans.

  • Oh my gosh!  Funny, but not funny.  I'm glad you found it!
  • Omg... now that is funny. At least you have a good story to tell your grandkids one day ;P

  • Indifferent You should call the police and cancel or modify that report.

I just called and left a message for the deputy. Hopefully he'll call me back shortly. I'm mortified.

  • I know it's not funny, but I had to let a small giggle sneak out.  I'm glad you have your car back!

  • I guess I'm a debbie downer, but I don't see how on earth it's funny to waste police time and resources on this and the ensuing "investigation." I'm sure it was an honest mistake, but its hardly funny.

I 100% agree. This is just absolutely awful and I wouldn't be surprised if I get a fine.

  • No one is laughing at the fact that the police surely had better things to do than look for a perfectly safe car, but the fact that it was more of an uncomfortable giggle of "Oh man, I would hate to do that.  I'd be mortified."

I don't think anyone is laying down what you are picking up.

I'm a Debbie downer too. Second, can you step back and look at your life? Forgetting you left your car somewhere and then filing a police report gets the side eye from me.

Um, thanks for kicking me while I'm down. I know my life is a mess and I have been taking the steps to right it until this happened. It's not like I'm sitting here laughing about it and not accepting my responsibility. ETA Im completely giving myself the side eye here too.

  • My intent was not to kick you while you were down. I am sorry if that is how it seemed. Life sucks sometimes, I know. What I meant was, take a step back and take a deep breath. It will all be ok.

I honestly don't think anybody under this amount of stress needs to get the side eye for an honest mistake. Nobody was laughing at the fact that the police were looking for a perfectly safe car, and I'm sure they'll not be difficult about it, as it happens. I don't think it warrants telling someone to take a step back and fix their life. Sometimes you're just stressed and do thoughtless things.

Laner, maybe take this as a sign that you need some time to yourself if you can. Maybe just a long soak in a hot bath and a good book. So sorry, and I don't envy your conversation with the police. So glad you didn't lose your car either, no matter if it is a POS or not! Been there, done that!

  • I'm so sorry, Laner...but yay for it not being stolen! I agree with the others. First, call the police. (I'm assuming you already did.) Second, take a step back and a deep breathe. I cannot imagine how this can happen which means that you must be under an insane crap ton of stress. Re focus, collect yourself and move forward. It may have been a crazy mistake lol, but it was a mistake.

  • Thanks guys. I'm sorry 4-8-06, I totally took what you said the wrong way. A long bath and a couple good nights sleep would do me a world of good right now.

Third Debbie Downer. Definitely not funny when there's actual crimes to be investigated.

I think you need to get some help. Obviously the stress you're experiencing is affecting you deeply & that needs to be addressed ASAP before it gets any worse. It is not normal to just forget you left your car somewhere. I can see walking outside & thinking "OH ***!" but within a few minutes thinking "Wow, I'm a moron, I left it at X yesterday."

You accused your XH & XMIL of stealing your car. That's a pretty serious accusation & I'd be livid if I were them. Do they know? I'm sure the police contacted them. Do you plan on calling them to apologize for the mistake?

I'm genuinely concerned for Lanerbelle. That kind of behavior is not normal.

I completely get what you all are saying, but I don't think anyone was laughing at the fact that a senseless investigation happened. I also agree that I have no idea how this could happen to the extent that it did...but it did.. Also, I could be wrong, but I think she said the police listed XH as a potential suspect since the divorce wasn't legal yet.

I'm implying that your concerned post comes across as more than a little condescending and I'm wondering if you are just having a bad day.

I don't know.  Maybe I'm going all mama-bear over this because laner is sweet and intelligent and obviously knows that the stress in her life is impacting her negatively and she needs to do something about it as well as being fully aware of the ramifications reporting an unstolen car stolen

You're assuming I'm being condescending. I'm not. I'm pretty straightforward & maybe you mistook that for condescention. I understand, as I mistook your comment for snark.

I think Lanerbelle is a very sweet girl going through a rough time. I can't even imagine the toll a divorce must take on one's psyche. That's why I suggested she get some help.

This exactly. The deputy's first thought was my XH, not mine. I was told by the deputy to contact XH and ask him if he knew anything about the car. I never accused him of stealing it when I spoke to him. I'm not going to apologize for doing what the cops asked me to do. Thank you for your concern, but I have been seeing a therapist since December and I've been on an antidepressant since then. I'm pretty sure I've talked about that openly here, but I've had no reason to bring that up lately, so it might have been forgotten. I was already planning to see my Dr about changing my meds for some anxiety before this and this just solidifies that I need to make an appt.

Thank you to the PPs who have defended me, it really means a lot to me.

Late too, but ditto to the above!  Sorry this had to happen Laner, but we ALL have made mistakes that have allowed us to take a step back and say "Dang WTF is going on??!?!"  Hang in there.
